Thanks for the heads up on the pickup. I test fitted it to see how deep I needed to route it and it fits. On the "flowing water" thing on the fretboard, some of those marks are burn marks from the table saw. It will probably sand out, although I kinda like them there. After rubbing mineral...

Thanks to some of the recent builds on here, I started....

So my bassist has a bunch of scraps from his homebrew basses that were too small for a bass, but perfect size for a lap steel. I had a piece of alder that was guitar sized. I used my Shubb SP2 on my Tele to fake steel for a song at church and wanted a real steel guitar. Thanks to Pettengill and some...

Unless it's a cosmetic issue, you won't need to refret since the strings never touch the frets

Asher EH Jr bridge question

From the pics I see on Asher's site, it looks like the wraparound bridge is more like the stop tailpiece used as a bridge. Is that the case? or would the actual LP Jr bridge(or replacement) work better in that application?

*drooling* although I think I would prefer the Stringmaster style D-6 as the necks are closer together more like a pedal steel

Straitfest 2001 - Tinley Park, IL

I attended this awesome event(first major country concert/fest for me) and did a review on it on my webpage. I'll end up editing it and adding pictures soon(possibly one of me getting thrown off the bull if the person taking pics got it). http://www.mostunlikelycountry.com/strait.htm PS, the steel w...

If Fender ever reissues Stringmasters, I don't wanna hear anyone here complaining if some teenage(I can say that since I'm almost 20, lol) metalheads find some weird use for it and it gets used in death metal or rapcore mess. 7 strings were originally for jazz, now they're used for Korn, Limp Bizkit...

Believe it or not, there's several Tim McGraw songs that have the traditional country rhythm. Maybe it's a more hi-fi recording, but listen to "Just to See You Smile" for example. I'm not gonna get started on Mark McGuinn though. He definitely is NOT country. Sounds more like Barenaked Lad...

They should force Tim and Kenny to do free shows in places they normally don't perform. Like Ames, IA. Then I could see them without paying, lol(I'm one of the few here that's a fan of McGraw). Either that or some other form of public besmirching if they're not gonna throw him in jail. The free show...

It's pretty sad that the trial starts almost a year after Cledus T. Judd already wrote a song about it. Seems Cledus already punished them enough by making Kenny get hit on by his cellmate in the song.

Epiphone Les Paul with nut extender with 10-52 strings tuned to open G while I wait for the woodshop to reopen so I can finish my lap steel(poplar body similar shape to the TeleRatt but with a Gibson-esque headstock). the LP seems to be an ok learning option, but I'm not putting the 16-56 strings on...

Here's my 19 year old, new to country, new to steel thoughts: I thought the awards had it's ups and downs. I'm a big fan of Brooks & Dunn, Montgomery Gentry, Alan Jackson, and Toby Keith(would've gone to see B&D, but Ticketmaster was retarded about the Chicago show so I got tickets for Strai...

I'm in the process of building a 6 string lap(open G) as my first steel. Found a nice piece of poplar for the body.
I guess I could be added to the list even though I've never played a steel yet(although I put a nut extender on my Les Paul and nailed "Without You" by Dixie Chicks in open G)

It's not a forum jamboree, and might not have a single steel in it(there's only one local country band and I'm in it, but we don't have any songs yet), but I'm in the process of organizing a battle of the bands for people living in the dorms here for next semester. The dorms will be dominated by fre...

The point I was trying to make was the ones that just sing and sometimes pose with a guitar. Kenny Chesney and Chris Cagle are 2 other examples. I don't know what they do in the studio, but I've seen them on CMT concerts or videos and they might just play a few strums here and there, but it's clearl...

Lack of band recognition

Is it just me, or is anyone else bugged by the facts that "singers" like John Michael Montgomery, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Hank Williams(all 3), or others just perform with their name and nobody knows who the rest of the band is? Most of them just write the lyrics and maybe a rhythm gu...

Tab in 6 string lap format

I've noticed that most of the tab posted here has been in 10 string pedal format. I rarely see any in 6 string lap format. Is that because it can't be played? Or is it difficult to play on a 6 string lap steel? I usually try to figure out a lot of Emily Robison's Dobro licks on my Telecaster until I...

Hmmmm, guess I'm too old(19) for that crowd, but I listen to a lot of modern country and love hearing steel in it. "Just To Hear You Smile" by Tim McGraw and "Without You" by Dixie Chicks actually got me started in liking the steel sound. "Born To Fly" by Sara Evans has...

Ames, IA has a decent club scene. There's the Maintenance Shop where I work that has quite a few national acts with local bands opening(sometimes headlining). Sean Watkins is the guitarist. Sara Watkins is the fiddle player, Chris Thile is the mandolin player. Scott Thile(Chris' dad) plays bass on the album. Byron Berline plays bass on tour(how he lives with assembling and disassembling his bass every gig I have no idea).

I would check the plate voltages in amps and filter cap ratings before using SS rectification. Especially in a Deluxe Reverb. The 6V6EH may be able to handle the increased voltage, but I have a feeling that the life won't be long.

I'm a big fan of CMT(part of what got me into wanting to play steel). I sure hope that they don't head in the direction of MTV. The country radio stations here in Ames are still pretty good. They don't play much traditional country, but they don't rotate the same songs over and over.
