On my old 8-pedal Fender 1000 I have 1st pedal raising E to F, then the A,B,C pedals, and the 8th pedal lowering the E's. Have to take your foot on and off of the volume pedal, but its not such a bad skill to develop; in fact it's become a useful technique for me even when I play my other guitar whi...

I have and play a '58 Fender 1000 and have compared it side by side to a '68 Emmons and a '70 Professional. The Fender's tone and timbre is very different, I suppose in part due to the the longer scale, the fixed bridge and nut, and the wrap-around aluminum frame. A glassy tone is how I describe it....

Emmons serial# 1185 D
What year is it? This guitar has cut-tail necks and does not have a bolt-on changer. Has the Emmons sticker on the front, not the raised badge. Fretboards are black/chrome. Would like to know approx. date on this guitar.
Thanks!

Kurt Kowalski -- cool dude
We have a killer in our midst....."Killer" Kowalski, that is. Helluva nice guy and a helluva player. I've been friends with Kurt for several years now, and we trade gear back and forth all the time. Recently I sent him "Pitiful Pearl", my beloved MSA Classic SS in return for an o...

Bobby Bowman -- cool dude
Some of you may or may not know, Bobby is my father. Not biologically speaking, but mine is gone, and he has tried to raise me right. He's also one of the finest players, builders, and steel mechanics on the planet, and he is THE man to see on push-pulls. I ain't just blowing smoke cuz I love him......

Playing E9 with both feet
First off, I don't want any snide comments about getting a newer steel http://steelguitarforum.com/wink.gif -- I have one, thank you very much http://steelguitarforum.com/tongue.gif -- but I have taken a shine to my old Fender 1000, and it's the guitar I sit down to most often and enjoy playing very...

Low impedance pickup question
I recently (this past weekend at the Arlington guitar show) aquired a 1969 Gibson Les Paul Professional which has the low z pickups in it. Curious to know what preamp I can use to bring the signal up and where I might find one. I know these guitars originally came with a special cord that had a tran...

Fender 1000 & 400 steels -- differences in model years
I have a ?? year 1000 which has the changer that pulls the strings across a fixed bridge, the larger pickup, and chrome stamped-steel pedals. I've noticed in my search for parts that other 400 and 1000 models have different pickups (smaller), changers (which incorporate moving string fingers), and c...

How to get in touch with Steve Takacs in China?
I've tried the two email addresses I have, and I haven't gotten any response. Maybe my addresses are no good, but they didn't bounce back. I have sent them from a Hotmail account....is there a reason that maybe my Hotmail won't send to an overseas address? (Forgive me for my ignorance here...) Anywa...

I know that an amp that's powered on without a load is a no-no. I'd have to have some sort of power-soak device so I wouldn't fry the amp on standby. I would also figure that any switch hooked up to the speaker outputs of two amps would tend to make a mighty loud POP when switched between the two. I...

Amplifier & cabinet electronics question
I'm hoping someone with much more electronics savvy than myself can help me here. http://steelguitarforum.com/smile.gif I have a 4-ohm cabinet which I'd like to use with two amps simultaniously: a 4-ohm Nashville 400 head AND a 4-ohm blackface Fender Bassman. I play steel and guitar, (not at the sam...
