Thanks Mike,

If you really feel you should give it up, understanding that even the best players concede it is an extremely difficult instrument to play, maybe you should go ahead and move on. It does take a certain resolve, and you have nothing to prove. Why make life more difficult than you have to? If you real...

Jeff....Good information, thanks. Could you please compare the performance of the E66 and TT versus the SS pups as you saw it. Also, what resitance was the TT wound to? The TT is wound to about 17.5. I'll just paste a post I did from June of 2003, which still pretty much says it all ...

3.Will either the George L or the Truetone fit on the pu support plate without the need to modify the pu cavity? An E-66 fit nicely into the aluminum pocket on my '76 Classic. I suppose it's possible Ulf's experience with the Classic SS is slightly different than what can be expected with an older, larger Classic. The E-66 is supposed to be a really good match with older MSA's in general, and putting one on my '76 S-10 Classic was definitely an improvement over the old Su...

I've only heard positive things about the hum level of True Tones in relation to other single coils, so I would guess that anything you've heard is really about single coils in general.

I can vouch for the True Tones, since I have one myself.

Thanks for the info. Were there any mechanical changes throughout the years? Yes. One of the significant ones, besides the Finnish plywood and mica to solid maple and lacquer change, is the aluminum pickup pocket that was later added to spice up the tone a little. "Still Alive and Well" is one of my favorite rock n' roll records of all time. What a great vibe. Maybe the fresh feeling had to do with the fact that Johnny just got out of rehab. Also very good is the black album "Johnny Winter And," with Derringer on second lead guitar. Great ...

I have a '76 S-10 with a 3&4 E9 setup. It has a total of six 4-hole bell cranks, with all but two of those directly connected via pull rods to the changer. I'm afraid I can't say anything about the C6 neck on an MSA.

Someone fairly well-respected in the industry, and close to MSA in an indirect way, told me Chalker's C6 neck (closest to him) was reinforced somehow, so it wasn't just a regular MSA with a different setup.

I started with a '76 MSA Classic S-10, and still have it as a back-up. Mine is one of the birdseye maple models, making it a beautiful guitar. Most people think the formica models (with plywood bodies) don't sound quite as good. At some point you would probably want to change out the original pickup...
