I think the guy has tunnel vision. How can something be obsolete if it's still being used? What about the Country Swing bands, Hawaian bands, and people like Jr. Brown, Cindy Cashdollar, Jerry Bird ect., that use lap steels or non pedal steels and are makeing great music with it. If you can make mus...

I would recomend one of the lower priced GFI pedal steel guitars. I have a ShoBud and a GFI and they are both set up the same. The GFI is light, easy to carry around, sounds great and plays great. It plays as good as any steel I've worked with and is very reasonably priced for what you get. It's not...

I use something a bit different. It's called a WoodPicker. It's very cheap. I get them for about $35. Most transducer pickups all do the same thing. I found out it's more in the preamp then the actual pickup. I play a lot of acoustic instruments as well as steel. I use WoodPickers on mandolins, banj...

I own a GFI student model with 3 pedals and 1 knee lever and it's got everything on it to keep me busy for a lifetime. It sounds great and is great for the road because it's so light and easy to carry. I would like to commend Gene and all the people on his staff for their engeneering skills and expe...

I personally didn't like G tunning and finally ended up with E13. It's very bluesy plus I can do a lot of nice country and swing things with it. I'll never go back to G tunning now. E13 opened all the doors for me as far as getting the sounds I really liked. Low to high E13 is as follows. DEG#BC#E Y...

Hi Al! Great to hear from you again! What are you doing with your tunning? I'm very interested in your pedal setup for E13. I'm going low to high. DEG#BC#E I have thought of using this tunning with pedals and now you really have me thinking. I've been thinking about getting an 8 string lap but I'm a...

Hi David, I've had pedal steels for a few years and got a dobro just a few years back. I never enjoyed G tunning much so I was always looking for something different. Well, about 4 months ago I came up with E13. It's such a cool tunning. Especailly if you already play E9 pedal steel. I found I could...

My goal would be to make whatever song or tune I'm playing on sound sweet. That doesn't mean I have to be a superpicker either. I just wanna make it all sound right for the tunes I'm playing on. Playing just the right notes and chord embellishments that really make the song come to life. Knowing jus...

I've been playing fiddle for about 8 years. I got the Cajun bug really bad when I was gigging in Louisiana a few years back so now I have a Cajun and Zydeco band in up here in the north country. Most of my fiddle playing is Cajun French music but I'm starting to play in an acoustic country (almost b...

Hey Bobbe, Congradulations! I'm on my fourth. I always seemed to end up with bar flies. Bad idea! I ended up with some MEAN women. I called marraige an occupational hazzard, (for a musician) for a long time. Now I think I just made bad choices in my life. I'm married to a very sweet and beautiful wo...

I always told people when asked what I do that I get on a stage and make a lot of noise, act silly in front of people, and I'm also allowed to drink like a fish, (if I wanted to, but not likely to), and sometimes even wear clothes I wouldn't wear on the street, but I'm in front of all kinds of peopl...

If you're playing bottleneck guitar it's just fine. It has a smaller cone and a lot tighter sound. More high end comming out of it. High end is great for blues. Smaller body guitars work nice also. I also use gibson LG models for slide with an old DeArmond pickup. Sounds great. (treble) I own one (h...
