MSA Chess Piece Fret Markers?

I was just playing my 1973 MSA Classic and am wondering if anyone knows the story behind the Chess piece fret markers?

Thanks,

Tom

That's a great price! Oh well. You snooze, you lose as they say.

Oh that's too bad, Bill. I think I saw your ad but didn't act fast enough. I also sort of assumed you wouldn't want to ship something that large to Canada. How much did you sell it for out of curiosity? My case is in rough shape.

Sho-Bud Pro III Custom (D10) Case Wanted

Hi there,

I'm looking for a Sho-Bud Pro III Custom case (D10) or something that might work for it. Located in Ottawa, Canada which might make things challenging but I figure it's worth a try!

Thanks!

Daniel Lanois on MSA

Hi Lanois fans, I had a chance to see Daniel at Ottawa Bluesfest this past weekend playing with Blackie & The Rodeo Kings and was surprised to see him playing an MSA! Looked to be a Vintage XL model. I've only ever seen him on Sho-Buds until now. My guitars are Sho-Bud and MSA which is either a ...

Thank you Al for all you have done for the steel community in Canada and around the world. My pedal steel journey would have been very different without you in it - might not have existed at all, truthfully. You will be sorely missed, but I wish you all the best in retirement. You have given so much...

Jean Guy Grenier's Steel

Hi All, I thought since you are all big fans of Jean Guy Grenier you might be interested to see this. I picked this up a few months ago and as far as I can tell it was previously owned by the master himself. Or at least the case was ;) It's pretty worn from years on the road but it is a sweet playin...

Thanks for all the input, I appreciate it. Once you start playing more guitars you realize every single one has its own thing going. So far the Sid Hudson tuning seems to be best for my MSA but I haven't tried the Micky Adams one since getting the Strobostomp. I certainly appreciate the simplicity o...

Thanks Ian and Jack! I ended up grabbing the Strobostomp and I think it will be a good solution for me. I've played a '76 Sho-Bud S12 for many years and believe it or not it played pretty well in tune for my style by making a few slight modifications to the readings of a standard chromatic tuner. Ho...

Strobostomp Good for Guitar as well?

I'm considering buying the Strobostomp HD because I already have a pedalboard I use all the time. On top of steel I play guitar and baritone guitar through the same rig at shows and I'm just wondering if it will be easy enough to quickly change between a sweetened pedal steel preset and a regular ch...

Just wondering if anyone can help me date my MSA Classic. Serial number is 1C875. Early 70s?
