New steel purchase

Hi Members, I am making the plunge from Australia to purchase a new steel from Mullen in Colorado and get it shipped out to Australia even though the exchange rate is high for us. I got some opportunities to play for some up and coming artists here on some good stages so want to upgrade my guitar. M...

F lever/E raise support

Hi members, I need a little support for a lever issue I'm having on my E9. I am generally happy with my tuning system which starts with the typical pedals down E strings to 440, then pedals up I use harmonics to tune the rest of the guitar however the other day before a fairly important gig at a loc...

I engaged them to show you guys how the springs slightly rub and make contact with the pull rods.

Thanks Justin and members for your inputs here with this thread. I will sit down with the steel in the next few weeks and see what I discover utilising all your great knowledge. I feel the masters of the instrument were and still are thinking differently than diatonic chords ,3rds and 6th harmonised...

Knee lever tension

Hi mechanically minded Steelers, Any idea how to take some stiffness out of my RKL (Eb) and RKR (G#) knee levers. My LKL and LKR not only have less play to hit the semi tone, but also are much easier to move than my Right side knee levers. I feel with the levers on the right side I am always fightin...

Thanks again Benjamin. I didn’t think it needed to be too strict when it came to the M6 voicings. Yeah I am not too familiar with C6 but I figured that might be the case. I see you’re from Australia also. Let me know if you do any gigs around northern NSW and Brisbane anytime. Regards, Dan 0449 846 ...

Hi Justin, Thank mate, I read your reply after Benjamin’s. I will delve into this one over the coming days. Yeah I only have a S10 so I am limited a bit but am keen to transfer what I can from jazz theory to this neck and see what I can create. I just find the common harmonised scales in 3rds and 6t...

Hi Benjamin,

Thanks for your message. Yeah that b6 note is a great off beat sound.
Do you know of more than 1-2 ways to play a M6 chord on E9?
I will put the effort into this, but any prior help will be appreciated.

Regards,

Dan

Thanks Justin for your info mate. After listening to the video below towards the end using this scale as a substitute for the major scale, I couldn’t get out of my head how it would sound on PSG. https://youtu.be/g9t7kKeme6U It’s played in a way to my ears where I hear less diminished work then play...

6th Diminished harmonisation

Hi members, Do any of you utilise the 6th diminished scale in either single note or chord form on the E9 over country harmony progressions? I understand players are utilising diminished chords in their playing, however incorporating them with a major or minor 6 chord is something I have been working...

Counterpoint examples

Hi community, Dan Neave here from Australia hope your well. I am wondering if any members can point me in the direction of some pedal steel recordings that feature counterpoint examples. I’ve only really heard Paul Franklins few examples on his MM course. Also if you have any favourite counterpoint ...

Thanks Bobby, I will check for that set screw situation.
What did you mean by ‘You may need a bottoming tap to make the threads deep enough to work’

I live in Australia so we might have slightly different meanings for these things.

LKL cross rod screw issue

Hi members, Hope you all are well. I was fine tuning my LKL (E raise) knee lever angle on my ZB and seem to have threaded the small metal connector plate that the Allen screw goes which tightens the angle of the lever to the rod. (image) Basically the existing screw and any for that matter won’t tig...

Hi Steelers, Hope your well. This topic/question has probably already been asked before but I do find this website pretty outdated and hard to use no disrespect intended to Bob, so just thought easier to create my own post. I am in the process of looking into buying a lighter weight single neck E9 f...

Undercarriage

Hi Steelers, Hope your well. I’m working to update my knowledge of the mechanics of my ZB and undercarriage and wondering if anyone can send me a pic of an all pull undercarriage. I can’t find much on the internet image wise for all pull pedal steels and definitely won’t find anyone in my country Au...

Hi Eric,

Yeah the length is not a big problem just the width. My idea where to find those waffle style pedals for this machine? The ABC pedal just connect to a small axel.

ZB pedal upgrade

Hi members, Hope your well, Dan here from Australia. I am wanting some direction on where I can source 3 wider pedals then I currently have on this what I understand to be a restored ZB with possibly some fabricated parts. It’s plays well and sounds good to my ears, however the pedals are too narrow...

Cabinet Drop

Hi members, Dans my name and I am a new member from Australia hope your all well! Could I get some insight into cabinet drop and how this is taken into account for tuning my E9th PSG? I have a background in jazz guitar and lapsteel playing and recently purchased a ZB custom PSG and want to fine tune...
