Thanks so much for all the detail, Dennis and Fred! This really had me stumped, but I just retuned again using your recommendations and ended up with something much better (and much more quickly, too). I'm sure I'll keep making tweaks as I go along, but it already sounds head-and-shoulders above wha...

Temper-tuning a universal copedent

I'm working on setting up an appropriate sweetener for the Jernigan Avenger tuning so I can record with other instruments. I'm tuning my A's to 440Hz and trying to sequentially tune the "beats" out of any perfect 3rds and 5ths I can find across the guitar. This has me in a place where my m...

Jernigan/Adams Avenger copedent

I recently finished setting my BMI U12 up on Doug Jernigan's diatonic Avenger tuning after stumbling on this thread late last year. Here's a typed copy of the copedent shared at the end of that thread: https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2203/21281_avenger_copedent_3.jpg I'm just scratching the s...

Weldon Myrick Video

I've been on the hunt for videos of Weldon Myrick - I really enjoy his playing and I'd love to see more tape of him in action. So far I've found this one of him with Bill Anderson:

Anyone know of others?

Bill, Ian, thanks so much for the detailed posts! This is a huge help. I was completely stuck when I posted, but I think I should be able to fix up what I have now and make some additional lowers with the info you gave. Also learned a lot of general info along the way which I always appreciate! You'...

Making new pushrods for a BMI?

I picked up a BMI push/pull S12 earlier this year with the hopes of doing a massive copedent change from the universal it came with to Johnny Cox's D13 or Zane Beck tuning. I enjoy doing my own work where I can and learning as I go along (half the fun of pedal steel for me), but I'm really stuck wor...

Bobby, thanks for the advice! I wondered if I could pull off a replacement without drilling the keyhead to modern specs anyways. In case anyone ever wants to try something similar, I ended up with: * more vintage Grovers with the same ~3/8" collar (found an inexpensive set online) * 3/8" o...

Replacing tuners on a '72 Wright Custom

Hi all, I was lucky enough to pick up a Wright Custom as my first steel about a year ago. I noticed some of the tuners were coming unsealed, so I bought a set of newer Grovers to replace them when I changed strings. Quickly figured out that brand-new Grovers are the wrong size (the outer collar is ~...
