We Three Kings

Back in the fall I started messing around with the pedal steel guitar. Perhaps if I had started playing the thing in the summer this recording would be more in tune. Ah well, there’s always next year.

Thanks for all the comments and advice everyone, I really appreciate it. There's a lot to digest, especially when I include the linked thread about Buddy Emmons' right hand technique. I'm considering looking into either the Franklin or Wright methods, but until then I guess I'll just keep practising...

You can see 10 columns of 4 holes for each neck. Each column of holes is associated with one of the 10 strings. The 4 holes in each column are separated into groups of two, an upper group and a lower group. This particular changer has the capability to raise a string two ways and lower the same str...

Right-hand advice for a new player?

Hi all, I'm about two months into my PSG journey/obsession and I just had an epiphany; I've been holding my right hand all wrong. I guess. I just noticed yesterday that I've been tucking my RH pinky and ring finger into a little two-finger fist. I suppose that's dregs from a lifetime of six-stringin...

Do you know where I'd find a list of the different models and designs? I don't even know what model mine is.

There was a gentleman on the SGForum (now deceased) named Ed Naylor who would soup-up your Maverick for you, adding levers, etc. It would be worth taking a look at his posts/discussions, but here's a bit of what he said at one point: "Practically all Mavericks I convert or sell parts for, are ...

Amps?

I'm a lifelong guitarist and a total newb pedal steel player, but it looks like I've landed a gig. So I'm thinking about getting an amp. I have a Peavey Classic 30 tube amp for guitar gigs but I think it's overkill for the PSG. I practise the PSG through a little beginner's Fender 10w practise amp b...

Yes, I noticed that it wasn't exactly the same guitar (or carpet). Just to clarify, Todd, yours is way, way cooler. Why is that? Is it due to the differences that John pointed out, because of the extra wood and the raised headstock...err...tuner rack? Or maybe because I spent six hours cleaning, oil...

Hilarious. I just joined the forum and at the same time took a few pics of my Sho-Bud Maverick to post in the serial numbers thread. Then I'm scrolling through the forum and I find this old thread and I see Chris Ivey's post (above) and think, "Not only is that almost my PSG, it's almost my dam...

Hi everyone! New member/new player here, and I'm excited to have found such an awesome forum about my new obsession. I have a Sho-Bud Maverick, serial number 2638. I have gleaned from other posts in this thread that it was made in September of 1972, but if anyone could supply any other details or in...
