Tom, that is one "drop dead gorgeous" steel. Being the owner of a B-6 post war Rick I recognize the pattern. My first thoughts when I saw this beauty was from Gomer Pyle... "Goooollly !" How does it sound? I know Curly Maple, Rosewood and Myrtle wood are probably the most dense w...

I seem to recall that Ampeg is a foreign made steel, perhaps German or Australian. And if my memory serves me correctly it is a Rolls Royce in the machine work...at least that's what I remember someone telling me. You might do a google search and find out for sure.

I seem to remember a post recently on the Forum that Bobby is playing one of Rick Aiello's steel guitars. Best tone going IMHO. Ingano is a master player.

Anyone know what amp he uses?

Bill, depending upon your height you might be able to use a folding keyboard stand. I have one for my Sierra. I wrapped some rubber around the top two pieces of pipe that the guitar lays on to keep it from scaring the guitar. You also might contact Sierra and see if they would retrofit it with the f...

Also, the Sierra has a solid plate of aluminum (I believe it is aluminum) sandwiched between the wood top and bottom. The metal plate is the anchor for the tuning keys, nut and strings on the pickup end. Great tonal quality.

I believe Sierra sells the fittings and legs (3) to attach to the guitar. Check Sierra's website.

Great true tonality, Doug. Also loved the sound of the Gibson. We don't hear much about their lap steels anymore...but they were great instruments.

Favorite steel album

The fairly recent release by Bill Stafford entitled "Unforgettable Melodies" rates VERY high with me. Tone to the bone...great chords...he makes that 14 string EXCEL sing like a nightengale. I personally place it very, very high

I have used a folding keyboard stand with rubber mesh wrap around the horizontal top bars. This keeps the guitar from sliding, and also lowers the risk of scaring your instrument. Just a thought.

Superb lapsteel, Chuck

Chuck, I'm not given to flattery, so I'm speaking sincerely. That is some of the sweetest, smoothest, lap steel "pickin'" I've heard since the passing of the Master, JB. Same great tonality, very similar vibrato...smoothness of chord progressions, etc. Loved it and listened to several on t...

Love the slant-bar resolutions. Can tell you have studied JB!

who did the accompanyment? Or is that BIAB? Sounds too "live" to me to BIAB, but then the ancient ears are not what they used to be.

Aloha
