Comparing it to another I have seen on the forum, I would put a general date of mid '60s.

1966 is reasonable to me. It has patent numbers under the front decal spaghetti logo.

I can't help but think of all the marches and rags that Sol played on that guitar, and now here you are essentially reinventing that tradition with your versions of this music. That was really phenomenal! Those first whistle-like glisses surprised me, which is nice. Music should surprise as well as ...

Thanks Mike, that helps! I know you know your stuff. I guess there's a reason a lot of methods stress singing a line first. I actually find myself doing that when I'm stuck on a (for me) more complex part, but I should incorporate it more just as another reinforcement and way to internalize even bet...

Picking out melodies by ear

I'm doing something that I'm not sure I've heard anyone really endorse, but it must have some musical value: A couple of years ago I bought a keyboard and got a jazz piano book. I do not know how to play piano! However in the first chapter, the author lists "must know" Jazz standards, acco...

Dave's link isn't the REAL performance, but rather an edited spoof if you will. I *think* this is the real one. Yoko starts contributing at about 1:55. I didn't watch the whole thing. I think at some point the sound man cut her mic off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbGuxGGOIV0&ab_channel=ang...

I just saw a headline--I was totally unprepared. What a shock. I am so sad. He seemed ageless. A real virtuoso with a completely unique style. That guitar was a conduit to his heart and soul. A true artist. We lost a talent that can't be replaced. Thankfully we have the recordings.

Unknown band, Cleveland, Ohio, 1950s https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2203/35_Cleveland_1950s_1.jpg That Ludwig set with the "top hat" wrap is really sweet to see. It's a holy grail among collectors. I read that there are only 15 sets known to exist today. I see one online right now ...

Oh, that's too bad. This is the anthology cd. I see it's gotten expensive even for used. Maybe you can keep an eye out for a cheaper one.

Nice to see Len Fillis mentioned. I have an anthology CD with 25 tracks of old Hawaiian music and related tunes. One of my favorites is "For You" with Len Fillis and Sid Bright (piano). There is just something I find really evocative and nostalgic about it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

Clearly wood IMO. You can see the grain coming through in places. Also that is a terrible headstock design--really bad string break angles.

That aside, it is really interesting because I have never seen one of these before. Did these have anything to do with Scotty's steel guitar store?
