Thumbpick

Hi Guys and gals! I've been playing steel now for about 3 months and I'm getting better but one problem that has plagued me from the beginning (and still does) is that I keep getting my bloody thumbpick caught in the strings! Is this just a neophyte "thang" that I just need to tolerate or ...

oahu bar

Hi everyone: I recently bought a lap steel and inside the pocket was an Oahu bar. I was showing someone the guitar I'd just bought and he noticed the bar; he nearly jumped out of his skin with excitement ("DO you know what you've got there??") What DO I have "there"? Its about fo...

right-hand technique

Hi everyone. I have been playing my steel for a month now and I've got a question: How do I really know that my picks are formed corectly on my fingers? I'm still having problems with missing intended strings, strings getting caught in my fingernail, and my thumbpick getting caught in the string! I'...

Slingerland 6-string lap

Hello ladies and gentlemen: I have a bottom line Slingerland Maybelle that I like a lot. Two things are odd: The cord is directly attached to the pickup; I've never seen that before on any instrument. Should I get it retrofitted for a quarter inch plug-in? I'm afraid of ruining the original work. It...

Cindy Cashdollar videos

Hello ladies and gentlemen, non-pedal steelers: I just wanted to put my two cents in about her majesty's teaching videos offered through Homespun tapes. They are excellent; I urge all neophyte steel players (like myself) to get them. After just a few days I could play tunes and execute the exercises...

Hi guys and gals: I'm wondering what kind of bar and what kind of picks to get to play a 6-string lap steel. Thanks to everyone in advance.

A word of thanks

Hi everyone: I just wanted to give a big thankyou to the non-peddle steelers who kindly answered my humble posts. This was the first time I've posted anything (I'm new to pooters) and I was amazed at the quickness and thoughtfulness of the responses I got from Brad and the rest of the fellas. I'd es...

Slingerland 6-string

Hi! I'm ordering a Slingerland 6-string lap steel (I'm sorry, that's all I can say about it right now---I haven't even seen it) Can anyone give me any info about this brand? I'm anxious to get started on it/I won't get it until Friday.
Thanks, Jim

6-string lap steels as opposed to 8-string

Hi, I'm brand new to steel playing (although I play swing fiddle pretty well). I just bought a Slingerland 6-string and I'm wondering if I'm missing out on anything by not getting an 8-string lap? Will I be do almost as much on a 6-string/ What's the difference? I also ordered cindy Cashdollar's vid...
