Hi Lee I use G6 on my dobro and lap steel too, tuning high to low E,B,G,D,G,E with the 6th string (usually the lowest) being strung and tuned a step above the D string, using a 32" gauge. This gives me a 6th sound when needed, but a 'strummable' open chord too..as well as full minor/minor 7ths ...

Looks good...similar tuning I've been using low to high
E G D G B E and E G D G B D using a 32 gauge string
in place of the low E & tuning it to an E an octave higher than a low E...
this gives 6th chords, major/minors etc with the 6th out the way too + there when needed..

Sounds great! I use G6 on reso+lapsteel high to low D, B, G, D, G, E (6th string E is a 32 gauge string-tuned a tone up from the 4th string D). This gives a 6th sound when needed and 'strumming' is still possible without a 6th sound, + full major and minor chords are available, as is all of your dob...

Bobbe Seymour has a lot of videos on YT and he i probably the main steeler known for sans-finger picks. i know a lot of the slide players dont use picks and it fits that style fine. you didnt specify what style / type of instrument you are playing and around here, if you dont, we all tend to assume...
