I have used an Android app called Fretboard Learn to learn all the notes on the fingerboard. It can be set up for any instrument - it makes it into a game that you can play anytime you have a few minutes.

YMMV

Alan Akaka suggested I try a Clinesmith bar for exactly that problem and he was absolutely right, it is quite a bit less slippery.

If you sell that to an experienced player who isn't interested in the learning material, I would buy that separately.

It's a little complicated but software can either be simple or powerful. VoiceMeeter is powerful.

I was surprised to see she uses a TubeScreamer. I have heard on here several times that that has too much mids for steel. Obviously work for her though

Can anyone ID this old homebrew lap steel?

So, I'm a newbie, but a sweet little old lady in our uke group has loaned me her late father's lap steel. She said he "made it himself". I know he was using it during WWII, but no idea how much earlier it might be. My local luthier says it's probably a Ric that he made a new wood body for....

I have the same thing. Between swallowing the mic and adding a preamp with a big boost after the mic, I have made it work but I'm going back to singing into a mic on a stand. I have always wondered if the condenser version had a substantially hotter output.

Melbert

I recently got a Melbert which I am very happy with. I am a complete newbie, so my opinion shouldn't count for much, but if you search the forum, you will see that Melbert is very well regarded.

Doug,

Didn't see Ukulele Lady in any of your books. Is this arrangement available?
