Try muting behind the bar and also check if one of the strings you are not playing is in contact with the bar and resonating. You can test it by damping the unplayed strings with a piece of foam. Sounds like a very basic muting issue. Quickly tried this this morning and it did appear to solve the i...

Its not real loud, but just enough that its a little distracting. I don't think its coming through the amp.

Whistle noise during bar moves? Strings? Amp?

Hey all, So I made the mistake of changing 2 things in rapid succession and now I have a problem. Novice player, been at this about 3 months now. I broke my 3 string Monday and then set about doing my first re-string which I think I accomplished successfully. SIT strings if it matters. I also bought...

In a discussion at work about Lil Nas X's effect on country moving forward, I was pointed to this song which isn't nearly as charming or amusing as "old town road" but does include a steel in the background. Steel + trap beats, what a time to be alive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3i3NC...

Many of them were raised by baby boomer parents who were able to miss opportunity after opportunity and make mistake after mistake in life and still be okay... and so imparted that same mentality on their kids. I think that's attributing a bit more malice to the Boomers than is right in this situat...

I don't believe it was because of the synth. It was just the "evolution" of the songwriters, producers, money grubbers at the record company. I hear way more guitar in country these days than synths. Add to your list: Brad Paisley, Reba McIntire, Joe Diffie, Vince Gill, Luke Bryan, Josh T...

Millennial here, I think there's a couple negative contributors but probably some reason for optimism too. Negatives: Its not the time commitment to learn, its the start up costs! We're all broke between rent and student loans. Even a basic steel setup is $1500 between instrument, amp, volume pedal,...

Posting up to thank Larry for spending a couple hours showing me the ropes Monday. There's a lot to learn for sure but things started to make a tiny bit more sense with the instrument in front of me. Time to start shopping for my own. Thank you so much Larry!

I'm definitely not opposed to paying for a lesson(s) or material, just wanted to see about giving it a whirl before dropping $1k on my own instrument. Nobody has said "you're crazy" so far so that part is encouraging. Is it kosher to just straight up PM folks cold on here? Definitely will ...

Anyone in NYC area willing to meet up w/prospective novice?

Mods, if this isn't the right spot please move and I'm sorry for screwing up my first post. Hi all, For years I've been talking about "learn to play the pedal steel" as a bucket list item. I've managed to cross a few other items off the proverbial list in the last couple years and recently...
