Re: Sweetened tunings

Friends, have it your own ways: I've never stopped to ask who was using what tuning method. Good playing is good playing. All of this for audiences that largely can't tell what neck you are on? Hair splitting for the sake of hair splitting. My 2 cents..... Sure, Gary, I had no interest myself until...

Thank you folks! I tried the Newman tuning and preferred it to unsweetened in many chords but found a few nasty dissonances (as I perceived them) - especially the 4th string in BC pedal (root 7 string) minor chords & in some harmonies involving the F pedal. I'm not assuming other folks don’t d...

Are sweetened tuning offsets wrt equal temperament?

I'm new to this and experimenting with sweetened tunings. I guess that sweetened tuning offsets are specified wrt equal temperament? I can’t believe sweetened tuning offsets are specified wrt just intonation, because tuners do not all offer it, although part of my brain feels that would strictly m...

OK folks, in tune, thank you! Sincerely. I can play. Big win. ⇨ BUT ⇦ My E to D# is backed right out (I could not go flatter on the drop if I needed to, now there's a tiny air gap to screw even with lever operated). This surely is not be how I should have ended up. What have I got wrong? Please ...

Gene, thank you, is that 'Methodology and Practice in Pedal Steel Guitar'? I have it and the DVDs. I consulted it but struggled to confidently apply it. Indeed I got in this specific mess doing my best to follow simpler instructions than that booklet, which is why I thought I should stop, take a bre...

Thank you, Norman, I have had that printed out and on my wall for a year now, with another copy fixed to a clipboard :-) That pinned OP is wrt an instrument which is well set up but just needs minor tuning: I somehow got way beyond that. Further down the thread there is some supplementary advice I t...

Help: Emmons string 8 knee levers adjustment all messed up!

Folks, sorry, I messed up & need help. I'm an inexperienced 10 string E9 player with a push-pull even newer to me than PSG overall. I was tuning one of my two knee levers E⇨F, E⇨D# I ended up either turning the wrong cap screw or turning a mile in the wrong direction, then lost track of what...

RB,

I'll indeed do that - I actually already have, roughly - I just thought there must surely be a more precise 'proper' way to do it!

Thank you,

Thank you folks - I'll look into that advice Lynn, much appreciated. What I'm not understanding (and I realise this may be super-clueless of me) is that my A pedal raise is in tune and my C pedal raise on the same string is flat. What I read in the sticky was this: 3. The Third Procedure (tuning the...

Emmons Tuning Puzzle - Barrel Fine Tuner Missing?

I'm a new player and in the UK which is a land where the PSG is a fairly rare thing. I have recently bought an Emmons Black Rock, upgraded long ago to 3P 4L. I have found the forum sticky about tuning a push-pull very helpful but am puzzled by string 5 tuning for the A vs C pedals. What I expected h...

The reality check has itself been very useful. *Thank you again* I realised the pedals were kinda drooping, unpressed hanging about as low as adjustment allowed, with the stop screws in the corresponding chassis mechanism backed all the way out. I've reset them to pretty much the opposite end of the...

Pedal mushy 'soft stop' pitch problems

I have a fairly 'Frankenstein' old PSG, with only A & B pedals and 3 levers. The levers have a good 'hard stop' and bends hit pitch just fine. The pedals are kinda stiff and it's very hard to feel a 'stop'. It feels like there's sort of a stop but if you push a bit harder, which is getting crazy...

Just thought to offer a heads up to a couple of apps I found.
