Weissenborn tunes and tabs

Since some of you had show interest for my -arguably left field- weissenborn tunes, I just made available for all a first volume of "weiss studies" (this is how I call them tunes) with tab booklet, at my Bandcamp page. https://jeanpaulbataille.bandcamp.com/album/les-cailloux-weissenborn-st...

I angle all my instrument to ease the wrist. I play the instruments on my lap, so I velcro something under the body to that effect. You can see one example on the modified Blackbird Rider carbon guitar on my You Tube channel. I installed a wooden contraption under the National also. For the puppet s...

The puppet show soundtrack following :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awBlRtAHzDM
Since one have to stop somewhere, I decided tomorrow there will be 33 tunes available for the show (for some reason, I like when the numbers are 22, 33 or 44)

Brooks :
no, phosphor bronze in the weiss. The Fishman is voiced for them, as most of soundhole PU's. Nickel strings on those emphasize the wound strings too much. The Schatten don't care anyway. of course, being a piezo.

Kevin : Fishman Rare Earth *and* Schatten HFS (the old Macaferri model that I used in a gypsy guitar). Each with a dedicated jack output (I don't use stereo jacks on instruments) Hard pan left and right respectively. Now there is also some pedals geekery, two reverbs, one delay, a modulation unit, a...

Andy : It's not hard (nor easy either), but the only thing I can do. I'm just not good at playing others music.

Beautiful. I never imagined something so interesting could come from just minor triads. The harmonic possibilities are quite narrow, indeed, but these parallel progressions of minor chords seem to have a mind of their own. A cinematic character I find appropriate for the puppet show I'm working on....

I know it’s your personal choice, but I hope you come back to it. Your compositions and execution are superb, and I’d bet it connects with a lot of listeners. Well, I found a personal voice with regular guitar. Done. Now I would like to do the same with weissenborn. After that I'm thinking abou...

Thanks for listening. I use YT to put the tunes for the puppet show in order to listen and memorize them, so here is a new one : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vF2ELMA7Py0 I didn't even realized this was a 5/4 time signature until I wrote the tab... ... in the search of a good tone. I have to play the weiss for a puppet show, can't have any microphone, so PU's only (God only knows when the show will be played live, but that's another story). This is not the "traditionnal" weiss tone (whatever that means), but after lots of trial and e...

Thanks Andy.
Actually, I can't do anything else, and although generally pleasant, sometimes it's also a handicap.

Lovely! But you didn't tell us the secret of pinch harmonics! :-) Well I dunno if this is the "official" way, but accidentally, my thumb hit the string at the right spot when I was picking it with the finger, and the result was a delightful artificial harmonic. I should have know better, ...

A bit of help for an on going project

I hope everybody is safe. Having a lot of time at hand, I plan to make proper recordings, along with matching tabs, of some of my waltzes for weissenborn. If some of you who are interested in that repertoire, I would appreciate to know what numbers you would like to be in a 10 tunes album. I made a ...

Oops, my bad : yes there was a microphone used in the recording, I forgot.
So this is a blend between the PU/effects chain and the mic. Something like 70/30.
I use the mic only for some air, the meat of the recording is direct electric signal.
Sorry for the mistake.

The transformation went really smooth, and the result surprisingly interesting. This guitar, which was a very poor nylon guitar, came out as a very useful "weissenborn". I use the name because the neck of the Blackbird Rider is hollow by design, so there is a relationship (of sort) with th...
