How it started - my first band in the late 1970's...with my first Sho~Bud https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2020-03/18124_band_1970s_1.jpg How it is now - my last band gig from the summer of 2020...with my second and still one & only Sho~Bud https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2020-03/18...
As I sat in the audience at last year's HSGA festival I was awed and inspired by the talent and passion that the folks there had for the steel guitar. On the long drive home back to Canada it occurred to me to put together a talk-story on the history of the instrument to help spread the word, so to ...
Thanks for the blog Mike. I just discovered it this weekend and spent most of my spare time reading through the articles. Especially enjoying the In Conversation articles. Thanks to the names mentioned, I now have lots of players and bands to add to my listening list.
The parts are installed and this is now a working guitar. A couple of things: I pulled out the toggle switch thinking I don’t need it. Might put a momentary switch in there as mentioned on the forum. The blend pots are too high for the bridge covers so that needs to be corrected, but the blend wor...

Thanks for sharing this. I didn’t know that Buddy used an IVL, but not surprised. I stumbled across mine recently in the basement. Haven’t used it in more than 15 years. This almost makes me want to hook it up to see if it still works...almost but not quite.
I just assumed that the toggle switch was a user add on but the 3way switch location was offset and didn’t seem right. After further research (google/bing and this forum) it looks like this guitar was originally a triple neck. The T8’s from this era had that toggle/blade switch on the middle nec...
I'd like to add Blair McNutt to the list. He doesn't have much access to the internet these days. I've known Blair for years and have always liked his style. When he lost the tip of his right index finger in an industrial accident many years ago, he just moved the picks to his other fingers and kept...
Measures 24.5†so is this close enough to be a 24†scale? I assumed it was a 1960 model from number under the key pan - same on both necks. Here is a pic of the fretboard past the 24th fret.
Thanks Brad. I was going by the number of frets past the 24th, didn’t know that year would factor in. Is there a way to measure? Say from nut to bridge?
This old 1960s Stringmaster (26" scale) just came my way. Although I play PSG, I mentioned to my guitar picking buddy that I was looking for a lap steel and he said he had one I could have. This is it. He picked it up 40 some years ago at an estate sale. I offered to pay him but he said that al...
Hey John...yes it was. I bought it from Steve through Bob Lucier at his shop years ago. When Steve was playing with Shania ‘Twin’ at the Daines Piknik back in 1999, he sat behind it and after playing for a bit he told me he never should have sold it. I recall you playing out there that year as w...
This is the third steel I've ever owned and the second Sho~Bud. Picked it up used in the late '70s. Still have the parts for the back neck and thinking of getting them back in. She has a few road scars but plays well and love the sound. Modified it accommodate the pickup and interfaces for the old I...
Friends of ours, Stan and Ester, host a jam every July on their property east of Innisfail Alberta. This year there happened to be a few steel players there and on Saturday afternoon we had an impromptu jam. Four players and three steels. Tons of fun. https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix1712/1812...
Jam with Stan at the Hanger lounge out at Springbrook AB (just south of Red Deer by the airport) starts at 7pm. Invitation to local Steelers but also to all pickers singers and fans of country music.
Canadian Country Music Association just announced some category winners for 2018 ... https://www.ccma.org/cgi/page.cgi/_article.html?aid=373&zine=show Mitch Jay won for steel guitar - here is an article about Mitch from 2016 https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/prince-edward-island/mitch-jay-steel-gui...
Watching your videos are part of my morning routine. After I get tired of the news channel I’ll watch one of your videos and the world seems to be a better place again.
Hello from Canada - just north of Calgary Alberta. I've been lurking on the forum for years and just got around to joining. Been playing PSG for almost 45 years off & on (mostly off the last 15 years - playing bass). Now that I'm retired I thought I'd dust off the old Sho~Bud and start picking o...
