Question for PSG + keyboard players
I'm a 'utility' player on stage in that I play piano, organ, and accordion, along with singing, depending on what's needed for the song. Now I'm adding PSG--to an already crowded stage setup. For other utility players like me out there, I'd love to hear how you lay things out on stage to make quick,...

A proper test would be a frequency sweep from a tone generator through the jack to a frequency analyzer. There are WAY too many variables in that signal chain to consider this chart as a good comparison tool, especially since it was likely a screen shot of a spectrum chart in a DAW. If the source is...

Digitech RP360 Patches
Anyone care to share their successful patch settings on a Digitech RP360? I recently bought one, and so far the most satisfying combination has been a Fender Twin amp with 2 X 12 AC British speaker cabinet to mellow things out. None of the compressor models are satisfying to my ear, or have enough c...

Jerry, I've been struggling with this ever since I bought my new Williams in May. Always thought it was my bar technique, until I noticed the problem goes away if I hit my C pedal, which naturally increases the tension on the string. So it must be a function of geometry and physics, that the combina...

Your question would make sense on a standard guitar forum, but once you put a guitar on your lap the numbering is obvious. This is a pedal steel forum. Steel players don't count from the bottom up. I would argue that all that changes from wearing a guitar to playing it horizontal (as in lap and PSG...

Paul, let me ask you a question. When you put new strings on your guitar, whether it be straight guitar or steel guitar...which string do you start with? Donny, I always start with low-E on my 6-string. Probably a lousy practice, makes for fun times getting strings stretched and tensioned ju...

Why are strings numbered like that?
I came to pedal steel from playing 6-string in addition to other fretted instruments, but the string numbering convention has never made sense to me. I suppose when looking at an instrument as worn by a player, there is some logic to thinking of numbering strings bottom-up. Granted, for those who we...

Thanks for all the feedback! Ended up working with Joe Savage, 90 minutes that felt like 6 months of content. Came home, grabbed a cocktail and wrote down everything I could recall, and am currently in a state of making musical noise that's beginning to sound viable. I gotta remember next time I hav...

Newbie introduction
Hey, all! I have the bug, and the only cure is...Pedal Steel Guitar! Following lots of research and advice on this forum, and having the good fortune of a job which affords me a robust budget, I have decided on a new, non-student instrument as my first axe rather than chance a student model or used ...
