Re: recording
I listened to your recording and i must say it was decent keep going not alot of steel but some nice guitars in there , Russ Thank you, Russ. Yes, the steel is not really in the spotlight here but it's there the entire time and I think it's essential to how the track sounds and feels. And I was rea...

Yet another PSG home recording
Hey Y’all From time to time I have shared here some songs I’ve recorded in my home studio featuring PSG and you’ve been kind enough to listen and offer feedback and constructive criticism. I’ve just finished another and submit it here for your listening (hopefully) pleasure. The PSG is in more of a ...

It's been a while since I've visited the Forum, so I was shocked and saddened to log in today and see the news of b0b's passing. I'm sure I'm not the only Forum member who didn't really know or speak with b0b personally, but whose life has been touched in a positive way by him and his work with the ...

Well, I plugged my StageOne into my Deluxe Reverb with the bass on 10 and Treble on 5. Wow, what a difference! Was so much fun playing with that tone coming out of the speaker. If only I had recorded it that way! Thanks again for the advice.J R Rose wrote:You're Welcome Justin, Keep On Picking, J.R.

JR, thanks for the feedback and advice! Yeah, the acoustic guitar lead part I recorded with two small-diaphragm condensers, each about 1.5-2 feet away from the instrument. And I relied on my playing dynamics to distinguish the solo parts from the rhythm/fills for the rest of the song. In retrospect,...

I just listened to that again with better headphones, and damn, I still like it :D You could probably make it slicker, but IMHO you would lose the character. If you wanted to experiment, you could add a smidge of compression, put a hi shelf to cut the twang (ever so slightly) a bit of reverb, and r...

I agree with Bob - you're on the right track. Not only could the steel be warmed up a bit - although that's as much to do with your right hand as your amp - you need to bend your fingers back towards you and dig in - but also, I know we have make do with artificial drums but they are less annoying ...

I thought it was great. I personally appreciate constructive criticism, but rarely give it. I will say that the song is great. It really reminds me of Gram and the Burrito Brothers. I say great job. Hooray for you for putting it out there! Wow, you made my year with that comparison! I love Gram Par...

I liked it. nice country song there. You asked for constructive critique, so I'll let you know what I think you might want to adjust next time.. The steel sound was a little too bright, and the nice guitar work to my ear was a bit too muffled. . As far as the playing itself you sound like a lot of ...

Hey y'all. Just finished another original song with a PSG part. Still very much learning my way around my StageOne but pretty pleased with how this one came out. Here it is if you want to have a listen. Happy to receive any feedback or constructive criticism! https://soundcloud.com/st-justin/coming-...

Another PSG Home Recording
A while back I shared an original song that featured some PSG parts and got a lot of good feedback from fellow members. I've just posted another if y'all care to take a listen. Still a novice, but feel like I'm at least moving in the right direction on my Stage One! Would love to hear any thoughts. ...

Garry and Donny, thanks a lot! I'm a big Burrito Bros. fan, so makes sense you'd hear that influence, Donny. And there's an acoustic rhythm track in there, but perhaps a bit buried, and to my ears the bass is already quite prominent. I actually worried whether it was too much. But I appreciate the f...

PSG Newbie Recording
Hey Folks, I bought a StageOne from Doug Earnest a couple years back and spent a little time, with considerable help from you all on the Forum, learning the (very) basics. I recently recorded an original song with several PSG parts on it and figured I'd share to show a bit of progress on the instrum...

Thanks everyone for the thoughts on my question. I appreciate the comment that stage sound is what the amp settings will control, whereas I can always rely on the board EQ for the mic'd sound going through the PA. I do have a mid control on the amp, so will engage that and I like the idea of startin...

Hi, I found this thread while searching for some amp-setting tips and am hoping folks might have some more-general advice for me. I am a longtime 6-stringer who's new to pedal steel, but have learned and practiced enough over the past 14 months (since buying a Stage One) to finally feel comfortable ...

Thank you everyone for the replies and advice. I hear the “crutch†argument, but respectfully ask in response, why are there fret markers on the fretboard itself? Are those also crutches? I think of my experience as a longtime 6-string guitarist. Today I mostly don’t need to mind fretboard dot...

Fret marker strip
Does anyone know where I can get one of those strips I’ve seen some online teachers use to mark fret numbers on the fretboard? Runs along the edge, from first to last fret. Not sure if it’s a sticker or just something that rests on the board. I sure I could rig one up fairly easily but they may ...

So I took this particular lesson over again and it’s now clear to me that the LKR-A pedal combination is executed by isolating the left foot on A rather than just using the outside of the foot. For that particular pentatonic scale there’s no B pedal required and I can now play it fine. Not sure ...
