i am gonna say that is an msa student model. i think the red baron had the volume pedal set up that way. the other parts look like emmons push/pull.
i have an early 1960's 8 string marlen and it bears no resemblance to this.

hi Andy,
beautiful guitar. i kinda remember that you had some Bigsby style
pickups that you were thinking of using. did they get used on something
else instead? was just curious as to how they sounded.

thanks donny, they look very modern for the times. when i think of what fender and sho bud were producing this seems advanced. the mechanical history of pedal steels is certainly fascinating. i’d love to see a post that pictorially depicted the differing systems that builders used in the development...

does anyone have any pictures that they can post of the earliest msa’s produced? i have never seen one and it’d be cool to see how they developed.

good luck with it. a common problem that can effect how the whole mechanism works is over tightening of the cables. they should have some slack to them. i used to run my cables too tight and had tuning issues with the changer finger not coming back to it’s neutral spot. easy fix and nothing to worry...

Davie, thank you for the reply. i am glad you’re back to playing and you are an inspiration to me. you sound like you have your gear sorted out. i just want to be able to push down pedals 5-9 when i get back up and running. i’ve had a bit of a setback with my healing but i guess these things are to ...

thank you for the reply Ben, i had to laugh thinking of Mr. Palenscar working on my fender 400. it has 9 pedals all in a row and there would only be enough room for the number one pedal to go down to the end of the row where the number ten pedal would be on a double neck fender 1000. after that, no ...

thanks for the reply Travis, i am glad to hear you’re gonna keep going. for me pedal steel has been a cruel bitch mistress that i’ve been attempting to learn since 1988. i tried and failed then. i didn’t get another pedal steel until 2015. i still don’t understand much about a lot of the steel guita...

andrew, thank you for your response. your suggestions are appreciated. i am going to see about the lockable prosthetic. that seems like the easiest to wrap my mind around. as an aside, it appears as if my amputation site is healing more quickly than expected and i will get the staples out in a week....

thank you Jim for the reply. i have swapped the springs and done several other mods to try and make for softer pedal action over the years. i wonder what Leo was thinking when he used those springs. i have been playing that guitar for a long while and can’t quite come to terms with the idea of not p...

are there any players out there that have had a below the knee amputation of their right leg? i am wondering if you are able to push your pedals with your prosthetic. about a month ago i had a bone infection that went septic and had to have my leg amputated below the knee. it came out of nowhere and...
