i am gonna say that is an msa student model. i think the red baron had the volume pedal set up that way. the other parts look like emmons push/pull.

thanks donny, they look very modern for the times. when i think of what fender and sho bud were producing this seems advanced. the mechanical history of pedal steels is certainly fascinating. i’d love to see a post that pictorially depicted the differing systems that builders used in the development...

did you get a chance to put eyes on it?

does anyone have any pictures that they can post of the earliest msa’s produced? i have never seen one and it’d be cool to see how they developed.

good luck with it. a common problem that can effect how the whole mechanism works is over tightening of the cables. they should have some slack to them. i used to run my cables too tight and had tuning issues with the changer finger not coming back to it’s neutral spot. easy fix and nothing to worry...

andrew, thank you for your response. your suggestions are appreciated. i am going to see about the lockable prosthetic. that seems like the easiest to wrap my mind around. as an aside, it appears as if my amputation site is healing more quickly than expected and i will get the staples out in a week....
