microphonic pickup

I understand they used to dip pickups in wax to make them "Solid" i.e. not allowing anything to vibrate like a diaphragm. When that happens? Any vibration is magnified.

Update.

Almost a year in. The Hypex update has performed flawlessly. Outside[High temperature] jobs no problem.

Never a a hiccup. PF 350 broken in and sounds great. Just a little too heavy.
Next consideration is turning it into a head only and building a seperate speaker cab with a 15". We'll see.

Yes

Put one in my hot rodded peavey 112 . “Nashville 112 redux” I don’t play much C6 so I can’t speak to that, but I have been very happy with it on the commercial neck. Solid bass response and very controllable midrange. The weight is another issue but I knew that going in. When my back screams...

I like em

Was a George L stainless user for years. They are no longer available. I’m on my 4th set of these . Very happy. Tone is consistent and in AB with my last set of George L’s ? Overtones seem to be more apparent. Been playing their acoustic strings for years so the color code thing is a non starter...

Paul Sutherland hits it on the head for me. A new Telonics can easily top $3000 Most of the tube entries are $1800 +/- Even the Peavey entry is $1400 It boils down to how deep are your pockets and what you want to hear. Just my opinion but when you start hearing about "the creamy growl followed...

about 10 hours in.

took the brittle out of the Peavey front end (Peavey 1000 preamp ) and smoothed the mids a bit. HEAVY!
powered by a 220 watt digital amp. Sounds good!

Pinching the tank

Sometimes if you have things "stuffed" into the back of the amp footwitch, stomp boxes, etc they can immobilize and transfer cabinet vibration to the tank causing what you describe. The reverb tank should always be loosely
attached and able to move. Hence the bag it sits in on the 112

Temps

Took a while to get this posted. At the end of the third set I measured 121 F through the vent at the top of the amp. Less than 50 C. I don't think a fan will be needed although I left space for one.

Playing at the jam last night it was great. Loud . Clear. And no appreciable heat. Turned on my poor mans humbucker (front and back neck). And with the Wallace true tone hum gone? It was the quietest I ever heard my amp. Guess a humbucker is in my future at least for the commercial neck. Any suggest...

Directly to the left of the power supply for the amp is Hypex’s dlcp-SMPS . As you surmised it provides 15 VDC +\- for the pre amp. @ 10A it has power to spare so the tan board is a couple of regulators to provide 9VDC for effects. ( hard wiring an EQD Dispatch master that can be velcro’d To the...

Nashville 112 Redux

Decided to explore a new amp and after seeing the $ 1400 and up price of admission, I began thinking about pushing a bit on something I already own. I have a Peavey 1000 that is OK and a Nashville 112. When I bought the 112 it didn’t take long to swap the op amps out for some faster ones to get a ...
