Did you know that you can lower the speed of Youtube videos by just clicking on the icon on the bottom right that looks like a wheel?

For custom string sets, I use JPStrings.com (John Pearse). They can assemble a set of any gauge strings you desire.

Since you liked Cindy Cashdollar's dobro DVD, why not buy her lap steel DVD's? I have her 2 lap steel DVD's and enjoy them very much.

Norman's Rare Guitars in Tarzana, just north of LA, is showing 2 lap steels on their website. An Epiphone 1939 vintage and a Rickenbacker (year unknown).

The city of Tarzana was named after the fictional character Tarzan because Edgar Rice Burroughs owned a large ranch in the area.

Hi Paul:

I have a Recording King lap steel. It is model # RG-32. It was my starter guitar. It sounds great at the lower frets. Even my guitar instructor agreed. But at the higher frets, it doesn't ring out as loud or as clear.

Hope that helps.

I can think of 2 steel guitar builders near you: Bill Asher at AsherGuitars.com, and Tom Burton at ChatsworthGuitars.com.

Good luck in your search.

I was a newbie like you four months ago. I also agree with option 1. I made the mistake of wasting my money on a starter lap steel guitar, but quickly grew dissatisfied with it, and graduated to a custom-made Clinesmith.
