Tuning

Okay, I am starting to get my head wrapped around this instrument and have a tuning question.. I have an MSA extended E9. I use a VSam Petersen tuner in the E9 temperament. Still, when I bring it up to tune, chords sound awful. I find that if I flat the "B"s and tweak the "G#"s b...

Steel repair

Jefferson County Music is a good little shop. They have had every part I needed so far for my 1970's MSA, and are very helpful. Darryl is the psg repairman/builder and knows his stuff. Their phone number is 636-942-3567. Really nice folks.

Emmylou!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My late best friend and musical partner Jim Peters used to joke that "Richard would drink Emmylou's bathwater" Probably true, LOL! In his honor, I have acquired an MSA D12 E9 Classic with which I am wrestling daily. These things are hard to play!

nickle v stainless

Thanks, I figured SS might be brighter. Do they tend to last longer, corrode slower? (That would be my guess.)

I am hard on my guitar strings and use elixers on all my acoustics because they are more resistant to sweat. my tele of choice gets changed pretty fre...

Thanks

Thanks for all the advice, seems like a consensus, the low strings stay. My dear departed friend Jim Peters swore by this site and I concur, what a great supportive community, but I guess when you are playing an instrument that is harder than chewing gum while skipping rope, patting your belly and r...

Strings for 12 string

I am about to buy my first steel and its a great deal but is a twelve string MSA E9. Any suggestions for string sets. It has been suggested that while learning I should just take off the bottom two. Thoughts on this?

I would use cramolin de-oxit D5 and then follow up with cramolin fader lube, but take off the knob first and spray a bit into/onto the shaft and work the shaft a bit to see if it is smoother in operation. The D5 is the stuff for the cracklies, it cleans the oxidation off the wiper and dust off the t...
