I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if there's latency. Most of the sample playing was chords and slower stuff. Still, it's pretty impressive.

Unless you tune every string straight up, a tuner that has the offsets programmed in is the way to go. Peterson StroboPlus HD does this and more. There are a few phone apps that let you program custom offsets. I use gStrings as a backup to my Peterson. It's very simple to set up a customized tuning....

Once the steel's upside down in the case, another minute or two would see it totally packed up and secure. Surely our lives aren't that short! :) I don't think this about saving time. The case often doubles the weight of the guitar. Even using split cases, my steel in the case is my heaviest piece ...

By "play" do you mean that the pedal has a lot of slack before it even starts to engage the strings? Or do you mean that it has more travel once the strings are engaged? If it's just slack, you can take that up by tightening the pull rods, but I suspect you mean that there's more travel. T...

Well, last night I was in the studio practicing, and I mentioned it to the engineer, and he showed me the spectrum analyzer for my channel... NOTHING below the low-mids. This was my DI signal. I'm not sure exactly what you're calling low-mids, but keep in mind that the lowest note on an E9 is aroun...

Dave, I'm pretty sure the reasoning behind sweetened tunings has little or nothing to do with compensated bridges.

In my case, my choice was just serendipity. There aren't any music shops around here that sell steels. Only a few come up for sale locally, and that's pretty much word of mouth. Back in the mid 80's I was playing a borrowed Sho-Bud when I heard of an S-10 MSA up for sale. The price was right, so I b...

As I understand it, the "Pro-Am" version of the Sidekick had a triple raise-triple lower all-pull changer. In my mind, that adds a little value. Still, it's only a 3+1 student model. A brand new Justice S-10 3+1 lists for $1150, with an all-pull changer, maple body, adjustable legs, and th...

More pics - no visible branding or ornamentation. seems inexpensively made. Thank you all....so maybe nothing wrong with the bar specifically, except that chrome would have been a better choice? Of course there is more friction on the wound strings, but that's consistent with the roughness of the winds. The binding on the plain strings isn't consistent. It's hard to explain...

Shubb SP-2 tone bar problems

I recently picked up a used Dobro and the Stevens bar that was included in the deal is kind of banged up. I did a little research and decided to try a Schubb SP-2, and ordered one online. I really like the heft and shape but I've noticed one annoying thing. When sliding it on the plain strings, the ...

I play your setup on my Derby and have changed every steel I've had, to that setup. Basically, do what Larry Hobson said. Just mount the bell crank at the end of the cross shaft, being careful to allow enough room for clearance. I must admit, I have a few extra parts to experiment with, but thinkin...

Great ideas. This gives me a lot to think about. I am worried that rods with too much bend would be unstable. Also, the existing rods to LKR have zero extra length to spare for bending. My goal is to get the same setup on both of my steels. My MSA doesn't have the 2nd string raise. RKL raises 1+7 to...

Same thing on my derby. All I did was put the bell crank at the end of the square close enough to hang on before slipping off onto the round part. then bend an off set on the pull rod to bring it on over to line up with the changer finger. Off set bend can be anywhere along the length of the rod wh...

Swapping levers on Derby....advice needed.

I've just acquired a Derby SD10 (3x5) which is set up with both E's on the left. I've been playing with E lower on RKL for years, and that's how my other guitar (MSA S10) is set up. In theory, the Derby should be easy to swap RKL and LKR, but I've run into a problem. On the Derby, RKL has the common...

As a quick fix, have you tried adjusting the lever so that rather than hanging straight down, it angles a bit to the left? It's an easy adjustment, and might buy you a little more space on the left. That's how mine (MSA Vintage XL) is adjusted.
