I got a lefty SX 1 on eBay for around $130. Overall I was pleased with the deal which included the stand legs and gig bag like yours. As for the instrument itself I think its a great deal for the money, even though the tuners are a little crooked. I also get the outrageous hum from the single pickup...

Michael - I think Frank at Republic in Texas does a good job of setting these up and getting them playable. I have since discovered a company called Hot Rod Resonator guitars (http://www.hotrodsteel.com/) that cost a bit more, but it sounds like they go a few extra steps to make them even more play...

Bill Hatcher wrote:the headstock design is very poor. one of the most important things on a lap steel is to keep all the energy in the string. all that wood cut away and the hole left at the headstock..worthless design.
Would a double slotted headstock be better? Or is solid the only way to go?

Re: Test the Waters Entry level Left Hand Steel Guitar

Here is your Best Bang for the Buck Entry Level Left Play Steel Guitar <<CLICK<< As usual the China Trade has little clue to details, you would need to unscrew the leg Sockets and Turn them so the legs stick out to the left play position. This is easy to do and takes a few moments. Once you "C...

Thanks for all the great info. Re lefty - I am indeed a lap steel beginner as Stephen deduced, however I am coming from a 30 year background of playing left handed electric bass. So I am doomed to left handedness. DOOMED! But I am quite used to it all from my years of bass: the lack of availability ...

Stupid questions Vol. 1

Forgive me if these have been asked before. 1. How many strings should a tone bar cover?? I think I have found an object for a tone bar that works pretty good and it easily covers 6 strings. But I am on the market for an 8 string and I don't think it will cover all the strings. Will it still work or...

In the C6th version, if you have narrow string spacing you can play strings 1&2 with the nose of the bullet bar while also getting the bass notes. Some downward pressure can help intonate the 3-fret slant. But it's admittedly difficult to get in tune so, truth be told, I usually just eliminate ...

Stupid question time.

I downloaded and printed out the pdf file and was curious how one would play the Gb13#11 chord?? The two top strings are fretted/barred at 8, the third string at 7 and the fifth string at 6. Any info appreciated. Thanks!

I am new to lap steel and have tried playing with finger picks but it was a disaster. I think playing the bass with bare fingers for 30+ years have led me to play the lap steel the same way. I am still having trouble finding lessons so there is no one to tell me that my techniques and equipment are ...

Thanks for the helpful replies! Re Skype - OK! In this day and age it never occurred to me about online lessons. I will also check out YouTube for videos. Such innovative resources were not available back in my youth. Re myself - I have been playing bass for the past 30 years or so. But as I become ...

I will also be posting many annoying noob questions about lap steel. I thank everyone in advance for any assistance and patience.
