I read about that guy too. Funny they went to black a few years later anyway. So it appears that Fender producing tolex cases in the late 1950's.

Hey J: HOLY CROW!!! You were right! Mystery Solved! I took the strings off to take the volume plate off, cleaned the dust that uncovered the 2 other numbers to the right and left. Just did some more research with the guys over at Gruhn Guitars. They placed the year at a late '54 - '55.

Hey Steve: I took off the pans last night like you suggested. To my surprise, no dates. There were some numbers, not many, but only single digits. So the mystery remains with the Serial Number #01.

Hey Steve: Thanks! Not yet. That's a bunch of restringing I'd rather not have to do. My research didn't seem to be consistent on any dating under the pans. Unless Leo signed it... then it's a whole new ballgame.
