http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix1504/16004_5_10_16_1_2.jpg Ok, I didn't want to de-value the Old Fender. I found these replacement tuners for the Fender. One hole would not line up with the original hole pattern so I elongated the hole on the new tuners to match the Fender. Now I can use newe...

I am starting to see this SGF is a great forum with a lot of really nice folks. I am constantly working on six string type guitars for people, mostly set ups and fret leveling, re-crowning,& polishing the frets. I do work on replacing dead electronic etc. Anyway, I got hold of David Jones at &qu...

Once again, I am really appreciating the good advise! As far as the bent tuner shaft goes, actually it was just bent about an 1/8" at the end. I went and straightened it before your post. There was no problem, the metal seemed malleable enough. I went ahead and ordered the button, I had trouble...

Thank You Guys! I really appreciate the great advice. The button replacement sound's like the hot tip. I am guessing epoxy is used to hold them in place. Who ever broke off the original must have used "vise grips" on the shaft. They rest are not bad. one is bent, I may try and straighten i...

OK, Stewart MacDonald had a reasonable facsimile of the above referenced 3 on a plate tuners, I ordered them. The mounting holes will have to be reworked, no biggie. I would like to know off hand who can re-work the pickup if it needs to be done. I may just replace all the old electronics in this gu...

Thank You Sir. So what actually dose the little "red button" do. It looks like it switches to another circuit. I really appreciate the repair info too. Hopefully she will light off and make some music here in the near future.

Old Fender Lap Steel

http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix1504/16004_2_22_16_1_1.jpg I just traded some odds and ins for this Old Fender Lap Steel. I need to replace the tuning machines, or find part to fix them. I am not sure about the electronics yet, I don't know if those huge capacitors are dried up or not. The li...

Way before my time. I do remember watching Spade on TV when I was around 4 years old. I also remembered how to watch it every time it came on after the first time I saw it. I enjoyed the show a lot.

True story about more steels. In fact I am over- hauling a Tele for a lady. She has a early Kaufman Fender lap steel so I told her I would overhaul her Tele in trade for the lap steel. So now I am at (3) 6 strings. Eyeing a 8 string. Also looking at a proper Lap Steel Amp as well. While I am at it. ...

Thank you, guys. I messed around with "Your Cheatin' Heart" I only converted the first page just to see/hear if it would work. Like you say similar but no cigar. So I like learning C6 tunes, so I will just get me another lap steel and have only for E13th tuning. I only wish I would have di...

Fred, welcome to the forum. I know what you mean about the guy in the music store. Most music stores today know little to nothing about steel guitars. +1 Agreed. I had a guy tell me about how great the tone was using a bottle neck and its warm sound was superior to a tone or bullet nose bar. I aske...

This is my first post here. I have been playing 6 string guitar since 1963. In the 80s I went into a "Whites Music Store" in Porterville California. I wanted to take lap steel guitar lessons. The guy behind the counter said I was too old to learn steel guitar. I was very disappointed. Long...
