Hi John, My guess is that it's my Sierra you're considering buying as it's on Ebay & the British Steelies site at the moment(I could be wrong). Much as I'd like you to buy it as I need the money I wouldn't recommend it if you're having back trouble. It's a great steel but heavy. Thought it only ...

Hey Bobby,

Well said. When I bought my first steel 6 years ago it was really hard to find much info on pedal steel playing here in the UK. Without this forum and all b0b's hard work I would have been lost so a big thank you from me too.

Liftkits

Has anyone used these kits from Bobbe Seymour (http://www.steelguitar.net/) The legs on my steel extend further than the pedal rods will cope with and these look to be cheaper (and easier to ship) than getting new rods from Sierra - plus I can keep them if I ever get a different guitar.<font size=&q...

Hi Richard,

Lovely playing. I love Sunday in Dixie, I've got a cassette with a crackly old vinyl recording of it knocking about somewhere, I'll have to dig it out and have another listen.

Scott :

Yep, still playing the Sierra, it's a great instrument to play and I think it'll last me for years - as long as my back can take the weight! Thanks again for being such a help during the sale.

Jerry,

Don't worry, it didn't come across as a sermon, just as someone putting another idea forward. Maybe I'll move the BooWah to pedal 4, put the old pedal 4 on 8 and leave the knees where they are for now as a starting point. I can always do the levers at a later point.

I think it's the Kronenberg ad where the guy wanders round trying to find a seat to enjoy his pint in peace. The track sounds great, it's got that lovely directness you get from earlier country tracks. I'm not knocking modern Nashville musicians at all as there are clearly some amazing players worki...

Thanks Jerry, it's interesting to hear your views on keeping it the same. I've got the Newman Universal video course and the way he explains the setup makes so much sense I wanted to try it. I'm certainly not an experienced enough player to dismiss the Sierra setup and I'm sure there's a lot to reco...

I've heard BJ Cole play through a Standel using his Williams and his triple neck Bigsby and it sounded absolutely amazing. That said I also heard him play my Bennett student steel through a Peavey and it sounded amazing too.

Thanks for the replies. Basically, my copedent is the standard Sierra universal, you can see it here (this is the steel I bought from Scott Swartz on the forum a couple of years ago): http://msswartz.tripod.com/Sierra_U12.htm I want to change it to something more like the Newman U12 setup. Basically...

Copedent changes

Hi, I have a Sierra Crown gearless U12 with 8&5 and I need to change the copedent. I'm not adding anything new but I want to move a couple of pedals and knee levers around. I've never done anything like this before so I'm slightly nervous about getting halfway through and ending up with a pile o...

The lady I bought it from also had a triple neck which sold for £30!! They were both made in the '70s by her boyfriend's uncle apparently. Seems like the intonation etc is sound but kind of hard to tell with ancient strings on it.

One-off lap steel bought on Ebay

I bought this oddity off Ebay recently for £4.99 as a bit of a blind gamble: Auction on eBay. Just arrived today so I'm keen to get it home, re-string it and see how it goes. I've never played lap steel before so should be interesting! Matt <font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align...

I'm not sure I'd use the word snob, but it seems a shame to miss out on so much music simply because it doesn't have a certain instrument in it. As a musician I often find the most pleasure in hearing things from one genre of music and seing how they might work in another. I love steel guitar but I ...

Hi Mick,

Just spoke to John, it's a guy in Petersfield. John said he's used him and he's great. Once John's dug out the phone number & let me know I'll pass it on if you like.

Hope you're OK, we still need to get together for a pint at some point.

McIntyre pickup

Hi,

I've got a McIntyre dobro pickup (the kind which sticks to the spider, not the newer one) and I wondered which way up it's supposed to go or if it matters (dumb question maybe but I don't have the fitting instructions that go with it).

Thanks in advance,

Matt
