My 2 cents... I own this amp, and it is AMAZING! When I saw this post, I considered buying it so I would have a second one. It is a tone monster, with that great fender reverb, but when I starts breaking up, that is when the real magic happens. Fantastic blues and rock tone, with great character and...

Also, I'm curious about 2 things. 1) The third pickup, was any wood or board removed to get it in there? I'm really hoping not. 2) What's the audience facing side look like? I can't tell if I'm looking at a repair on the outer changer side corner. I will check next time I am down there.. does not l...

Collier D8 - worth fixing?
Hi Crew, A friend pulled out a beautiful case from a dusty corner in his basement, and out came a guitar I was not familiar with at all. It is a D8, tagged “Collier Customâ€. Necks look similar to Emmons, their is a strange 3rd pickup in a partial position. Undercarriage is in poor shape. No pull...

Jim's shop is a steel guitar Mecca… He is a fantastic guy, and it is a fantastic place… My only regret is not going there more… While you are there, check out some amazing steels, talk shop, or take a lesson, if you feel so inclined. Jim is a great guy and super knowledgeable/helpful. Well wor...

Re: Beginner's tuning
Work your way up to it? It's inherently better is it? Not better. But another tuning, with 10 strings, levers and pedals to master. I figured if I can get a good handle on 6 of those strings first, with their harmonic content, it will make mastering the 10 easier. Also, getting a 6 string lap was w...

Beginner's tuning
Hi, Playing E9 pedal steel (beginner), but want to work my way up to C6. In order to do this, I bought a 6atring lap steel. It is currently tuned to C E G A C E. Would you guys recommend another tuning to learn on? A few things online say to tune the bottom string to C#. Also, any good chord books y...

Steel Guitar in Chicago?
Hi everyone, I am moving from my beloved LA to Chicago... I will dearly miss Jim @ SGNC, JD Maness jamming at the Cantina, McCabe's and the wonderful slide concoctions they offer, and so many other things, but am excited to get settled in our new city. Calling on the community: any steel players, sh...

Tried both at the Phoenix show. Initially thought I would prefer the 12. Great punch and definition. Then true the 15 and was swayed. More roundness to the tone, but still all the greatness from the 12. However, both are awesome amps, backed by great people. Can't really go wrong. But see if you can...

I own an encore guitar with hum bucker, I love it! Get lots of compliments too! I got both the 4th pedal and the pad. I never used the pad, and very rarely the 4th pedal. I guess I would have still put the 4th pedal on, if only for resale ease (though I won't be selling this thing any time soon!). P...
