Looks like a beauty! At first glance I thought you had used a string leveling style nut, which i think is a great idea—surprised it’s not used more. Probably a hassle to build?

I'm not interested in hearing them mutated into some weird free style like the work of Bela Fleck or Jean Luc Ponty. I accept the limitations of popular music, and I believe its appeal is familiarity. However, when musicians master their instruments, I sense many get bored with familiarity. A typic...

I know you're only experimenting but, here's a recent shot of one of Paul Beard's dual pickup (Lollar Gold Foil and Fishman "Nashville" piezo) guitars. Fishman active electronics. This particular guitar also has the Hipshot "Doubleshot" tail piece. A "loaded" guitar. I...

I’d recommend Merle Haggard, “The bluegrass sessions”, with Rob Ickes playing dobro. Although it’s called “The bluegrass sessions”, all the songs are classic country. I guess Merle called it bluegrass sessions because they all sat in a circle, playing acoustically, including Marty Stuart and others....

Funerals can be fun. I played at a friend’s wake. Cancer. Mort, an old bandmate. He organized it. “I want to be at my own wake” he said. At the party, he sat in a recliner in his yard in a bathrobe and slippers and smoked. A bunch of us played. We had a few stand up jokes with prizes for best jokes....

Nah, just we just jam at the bar. Neighbors won’t shoot the bar’s windows out. They don’t want to get banned.😎

Re: Race to the Bottom?

Fred, Right on! Brooks, You are an intelligent man. If clubs were not an option, where would you play? Well, as I mentioned, where I live, in rural Idaho, clubs (bars, honky-tonks, breweries) are the option, That’s where we often have jams and open mics. And people show up and enjoy it (sometimes😎)....

Thanks Fred and Michael,

Michael, so your statement still has me confused: ‘Open mics and jams have a place, just not in clubs’.

Open mics and jams, where then? If Clubs, bars, honky-tonks are the same thing. ?

Re: Race to the Bottom?

Hi, Don. I dig where you're coming from. Open mic and open jam have a place; they just aren't in a club. Thanks for sharing. I guess I’m confused with the concept of “clubs” and why they can’t have open mics. I live in rural Idaho. We have bars. Honky tonks, and breweries. Some (sadly few) hire ban...
