Hi Jon, Yes, RKR raises the Es and RKL lowers them on my Emmons. This was my dad Bill's preferred setup. I think he liked that it mirrored the bar movement for the equivalent pitch change (i.e. moving the bar left lowers the pitch, so the levers do the same). The Sho-Bud he had was set up the same w...

Thanks everyone - it's reassuring to know that more people are still doing E changes with the right knee. I thought I was stuck in some kind of prehistoric setup. If Paul Franklin is using it, that's especially comforting as he is kind of my hero when it comes to modern steel players. (Side note: th...

Should I change my setup, or my brain?
Hi Everyone, I am a part-time steel player who is just getting back to it after some time away. I learned to play on an Emmons S10 E9. On that guitar, the E raises and lowers were set up on the right knee levers (RKL to lower, RKR to raise). This is what I got used to and it feels intuitive to me no...

Problem with A pedal on my Emmons
Hi folks, I have an older (late '60s or early '70s) Emmons S-10, in the rosewood-formica finish. It's been working fine until recently. However, all of a sudden, the A pedal started to stick and not travel freely. I investigated underneath the guitar, and it seems like the A-pedal cross shaft is shi...

Hi Jon (and all), Thanks - yes, indeed, I am Bill's youngest son. I'm also about 6 very fun months into learning the pedal steel, after 20+ years as a bass player. First off - thanks to all for the kind words and appreciation...it means a lot to me and our family to see how much so many folks have c...

Hi folks, Martin Keith here - I am fortunate enough to be Bill's youngest son. I'm also about 6 months into a wonderful new relationship playing pedal steel, after over 20 years as a working bass player. First off, thank you to everyone here for your kind words - it means a lot to all of us to hear ...

RKL for me - first learned on an old Sho-Bud set up like that. Plus, I found it easier on the 3+4 setup since they weren't on the same leg as the pedals... my current Emmons S-10 is set up the same way. My dad preferred having the E changes on the right leg too, so I just inherited his preferences w...
