As it turns out, I took out all the brass rollers on the keyhead end, cleaned them up switched the 4th one with one that showed less signs of wear. When I put it back together, it transformed the mess. It solved about 90+% of the problem with the 4th string and the pedal, that I was sure had a bad p...

Show Bud 4th string

I have a 1982 Show Bud and the 4th string is starting to sound intermittent. Sometimes it sounds like I am accidentally dampening it with my finger. New strings did not fix it. A little pressure on the E lever will clear it up (but of course, you are out of tune). Is it most likely something in the ...

New Strings for Sho~Bud

I have a '82 Sho~Bud that I am learning to play. I have had it for a couple of years and suspect it is about time to change the strings :) What strings should I put on it and where do I get them?

Is it ok to say "Yah, but how!" Seriously, thanks for all the great advice. Are there resources for learning common phrasing for such fills and chord progressions?

Playing backup

I am trying to acquire the "feel" for when and how to play back up. I would be playing behind vocals and instrumentals (southern gospel). I know that I am not supposed to play non stop, but how do you get that sound just at the right times with the right emotion?

Volume Pedal question

I have a Show Bud Volume pedal that produces a lot of static. It seems like it could possibly use some lubricant, but what do I use and how/where do I apply it?

Jeff Newman presets on Peterson Tuners

I am running the Peterson app on my I-pad and want to download the presets, but I found out that there are two different Newman presets; one with the Es on pitch and the others with the Es #. Which do I want?

PSG store St. Louis, MO

I am visiting near St. Louis, MO. I have heard there is a good steel guitar store in the area. Can someone tell me what/where that might be?

Computer software for chords and copedents?

Some time ago on the forum I saw a link to download software to your PC. Once you programed your copedent into the system and requested a given chord, it would give you all the pedal/lever combinations and frets where that chord could be found on your guitar. Can anyone give me the link to that prog...

Thinking about it, the problem was not so much the difference in timing between stings 3&6 but pedals A & B. I changed the rods in the bell cranks (went the wrong way the first time and got everything in a mess)and re-tuned. Also shortened the pull on one of the levers so knee doesn't have t...

Thank you everyone for the input; I'll try changing the rod on the bell crank. Is there a good reason to go back to a wound string?

Show Bud B pedal

I have an LDG and have noticed that when you Press the B pedal, the third string raises evenly through ought the pedal action but the sixth string raises quickly at the very bottom of the pedal action. I'm not worried as much abuout synchronization as I am describing the feel of the action I don't l...

I think I am really leaning toward the Bud. Once I learn how to sit down and play I hope some day to find a place where I can see and play a wide variety of brands and models then go from there; right now all the options seem a little overwhelming. Thank you for all your input for an aspiring steeler.

Show Bud vs. Sierra?

I am looking for my first steel guitar; I now have my eye one two: a 1982 Show Bud LDG in "like new" condition and a 2001 Sierra Session. Both about the same price (the LDG comes with the vol. pdl.). I'm a wood guy; I love the lacquered finish, and so many people rave over the sound of the...

Looking for Pedal Steel

I am looking for my first steel. Single or Double neck; Weight is not an issue; I'd rather have a rock solid instrument and I will not be transporting much. Prefer maple cabinet. 3+4 Double raise/lower. Older model OK, but I want a guitar that plays and sounds great and will serve me for years to co...
