I think that would be referred to as a Concert Zither. Very cool instrument indeed. Watching someone play this properly is really inspiring. Especially if you are of Bavarian descent.

Where to put a fry pan volume knob???

I got my spot in line for a Clinesmith frypan lap steel. Im undecided on where to put the volume knob. On top , bass side seems out of the way. Iv seen some put a knob on the side of the instrument, treble side of the body and that seems to be more accessible without having to move the picking hand ...

Oahu lap steel with case SOLD please close

I’m selling this little Oahu lap steel. Probably from the late 50s. There was a repair to the headstock at some point, looks like it broke off. The jack was swapped out to a modern quarter inch. The pickup works ok, not perfectly balanced and looks like a pole piece was broken trying to adjust it. C...

Lap steel case

This case was originally for a Gretsch Deluxe lap steel. It is in fantastic shape, aside from some stains and a tiny bit of fraying around the edges and the handle missing some of the original leather. The latches work great, the case functions perfectly. I remember the Gretsch that went with the ca...

C Dobson pony banjo for trade CLOSED

I recently acquired this little Henry C Dobson pony banjo. I would like to trade it for an instrument of equal value. As you can see in the photos it is missing a few inlays in the fretboard and headstock. Other than that it is in very nice shape for its age. Plays very easy. Not sure the exact year...

From a playability perspective I felt like it was much easier to add low strings to C6 instead of heading a high G and having to get used to that top string being in the way. Didn’t work for me, but I’m not much of a theory guy.

Ryan’s instruments are VERY nice. I played a couple in a music store and was really impressed. There are a lot of independent luthiers out there, I have yet to see any instruments that were made better than his.

Secret song

I just received a vinyl copy of Steel Guitar Vintage Classics Number 1 from the forum store. The first time I heard this album was when a fellow forumite (can’t remember who exactly) posted a link to it from a library that digitized their music catalog. The song “Come a Little Closer” is hands down ...

I would guess someone took the necks apart and made the hole bigger than it was originally and had to get creative to keep it covered up

I appreciate all the info Nick! Is it safe to say a 26” scale is a MK1 feature? I asked the seller if I could exchange the pickups for the right ones, which he sent me a link for after I sent him a picture of the pickup not fitting. It’s hard to communicate respectfully over the internet and not be ...

Thanks, Unfortunately I didn’t know enough when I bought them to feel justified in filing a complaint. It was the messaging back and forth after I got the pickups that irritated me. Plus this ebay guy has other parts I will need to buy. It’s probably not possible, but I would love to have the last w...

Ok, I didnt know what the Mark I and Mark II was referring to. Is there any definitive info out there that I could send to the EBay seller to convince him that he doesn’t know everything? I’m hoping I can trade him back these pickups. Thanks for the info Nick!

Bill, Thanks for the reply. Yes I have a 26” scale double neck stringmaster. I fell victim to trying to part this guitar back together by buying all the parts on EBay. I bought what was labeled as 50s stringmaster pickups, but they are too long to drop in. The eBay seller is adamant there are no oth...

26” scale stringmaster D6??

Did Fender make a 26” scale double 6 string Stringmaster? Just purchased some vintage stringmaster pickups for my D8 and they are too long to fit in the body cavities. Thanks

Fabricating a stringmaster bridge

I have a 26” Stringmaster D8 that I need some parts for. Looks like the bridges are not available anywhere currently. I’m considering having them made, the problem is that I do not have the dimensions to be able to show a machinist so that they can fabricate an exact copy. I’d be happy to pay someon...

Try bending the picks you already have. Took me quite a while to figure out how I needed to shape my fingerpicks before they felt right and hit the strings at the right angle.

Dual pro hardware for sale of trade

I purchased some parts from an older Dual Professional earlier this year in hopes of eventually rebuilding a Dual Pro. I am NOT in the business of parting out steel guitars for profit. Long story short, I came across a ‘55 long scale https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2203/15625_18A6A0A34E1A4C06...

‘55 Stringmaster rebuild

Hello forum, I have a 1955 stringmaster body. I am in the process of collecting the parts needed to make it playable again. This guitar has a 26” scale. I can’t quite seem to find enough photos online to identify the hardware I’ll need. Anyone here have a longscale D8 Stringmaster from 1955 they can...
