With these kinds of outboard setups, do you really need an expensive patchbay? As long as it's balanced, can you go with cheaper options? Does this really matter? Switchcraft is very expense when compared with Samson or ART or DBX. Will TT sound better than TRS? I don't plan on buying a ton of outbo...

I use a Sarno V8 for direct recording. No speaker emulation or plug ins. Sounds great. I regularly do commercial release recordings for people with it. Cool. Thanks Bob. I know speakers filter out a lot of frequencies that are important for electric guitar. I presume no speaker or speaker emulation...

Advice for DI Recording Pedal Steel
Any advice on recording pedal steel direct? Looking for a Nashville 1960's sound. I presume all the classic country records used Fender Twins. If I go with the Sarno Revelation or Sarno V8 or Teleonics Pre-1000, how exactly would I get speaker emulation? Would that be best achieved with software or ...

Hi Christopher, With the NuX are you able to play along with youtube lessons and still hear both the guitar and video through the headphones? I've been using the NuX Mp-2 for just about a year. Great little rig, works like the Fender amplug but is a lot more flexible. It has a bunch of amps and cab ...

I ordered a S12 from MSA, and gave them this copedent below. Hopefully this is still considered the best setup. Question, once I get my steel, can anyone here help me with lessons? We could do them remotely or somewhere in ATX. https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2203/15437_Screen_Shot_20220626_a...

Late Night Headphone Practice
Anyone try these little portable headphone amps for late night practice? If so, what do you use? Is this little fender headphone amp any good for practicing?

Hi Johnny, I'm having a new MSA S12 put together. Of these options what would you recommend for a beginner? I should also say that I really don't want to change copedants after deciding on one, as I don't want to be constantly re-learning how to play the instrument. Regularly changing and experiment...

Very cool. Thank you all for the feedback. On the one hand I want all options available on my setup, yet on the other I recognize that keeping it simple can also yield positive results. I'm leaning towards either D13 or a D-10. If I opt for D13, I'll have to figure a lot out on my own as I don't exp...

Hello Everyone. Of all the available setups does D13 allow you to play the most variety of different voicings? Is this the best setup for chord-melody or western swing? On my S10 E9, there are simply some chord alterations which I haven't been able to find a way to play on the instrument. For instan...

Thanks Tucker for the lengthy reply. Having studied and played 6 string (jazz) guitar for most of my life, I'm somewhat accustomed to following suit with an established technique developed over several hundred years. I guess the exciting thing with PSG is that there's still a lot of room left for in...

Is the tuning on any of these compensated in cents/hz like Jeff Newman's setup? I found sweetening the tuning on my E9 to make a huge difference. In Johnny Cox's youtube video above, I didn't understand it all but the intonation sounded perfect. Also, in the video it looks like he omitted the 7th pe...

Had a little free time and drafted up this comparison between the open tunings of 5 different setups. This tells me the similarities in open strings, but not really how flexible they are comparatively speaking. Thoughts? https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2020-03/15437_Screen_Shot_20210801_at_12...

Thanks everyone for your advice and comments on this. I think the biggest problem is that I'm sort of flying blind. If I were more familiar with what the actual differences are between these tunings, I might be able to make a more informed choice as to what the benefits and compromises are. I suspec...
