This is a real looker. Beauty guitar. In some ways I sometimes wonder if I should have started on a 6 string such as this. I have a 54 Fender dual 8 I am learning on. I find most learning material is based on a 6 string. If I had cash laying around I'd be on this. This is going to make a wonderful in...

I used fine steel wool to clean up the tuner pans on my 54 Dual 8. I got a small stick or pen and pushed it under the tuning pegs and scrubbed with the wool, where my fingers would not fit. My tuners looked identical to yours too. I lubed them up with vaseline. I used Mothers California Gold Step 1 ...

If it is indeed a '62 and it is a Deluxe, it will most likely be the non Reverb 6G3 circuit. Also know. as a brownface deluxe amp. These are known for their great overdrive qualities. The most Marshall crunch type amp Fender ever made. If you know early ZZTop like "Waiting For the bus, Jesus ju...

A couple of photos and we can tell you just about anything you need to know. A few with the upper back panel off, of the parts up there, transformers etc, and one of the front. Then we can stop assuming and guessing things. Some of the most valuable, collectable amps Fender ever made was the early B...

I too like hearing the details on all the gear used. I am nuts about music gear. It's fun and interesting. I can't seem to ever get bored of it or run out of new things to learn or try. From guitars, pickups, amps, pedals, mics, strings and so much more. I try so many different combinations, it's fu...

Maybe it's just me, and to each their own, but I kind of frown little when I hear of people parting out vintage. Parting out, because it's worth more than selling the whole unit. I don't know why I don't like it. I guess deep down I want to preserve any vintage Fender gear. In reality I suppose, for...

Being fairly new to NPS guitars, this is my first glance at a Guyatone. At first sight I thought it was a Stringmaster. Did Fender have anything to with the Guyatone? Or just give them inspiration? What year is this Guyatone? Thanks.

Fender NPS Production Numbers

Hi, I am interested in a discussion around early Fender non-pedal steel production numbers. I was reading a book today: "Fender, The Sound Heard 'Round The World". By Richard R. Smith. There are production numbers published from 19651 and 1952. Source : Leo's notes. Sales by unit 1951: Ste...

Roy Wiggins Memory Time Tab Book Inquiery

Hi I am new to non-pedal steel guitar. I like Roy Wiggins and am interested in the Mel Bay book called Memory Time. On the cover Roy seems to be playing pedal steel. I just have a console steel Pro Dual 8. Will this tab book work for me? Do you have this book? Do you recommend it? Thx. Keith.

I have completed the clean up and detailing of the guitar. It's been strung to E13 and E9 currently. I am planning to study some Roy Wiggins and Don Helms. Here it is cleaned up and ready for action.

Good to know Ben. Having it documented here for future use was my intention.

I wanted to say that this DP 8 guitar has captivated me. I have barely done a darn thing except fiddle with it for days. My wife is about ready to take matters into her own hands. Its a ton of fun, it has consumed me.

I tuned up my 2nd neck to Roy Wiggins E13 as suggested. It's certainly different than anything I have tried before. I definitely hear some Don Helms/Hank Williams in there. I had never Heard of Roy Wiggins before. He sounds great. I'll plan to study both players with this common tuning. The other ne...

Cool Ben, yours is identical to mine it seems. You mentioned replacing one set of tuners. Were they broken? Seized up? What did you use for replacements? I suspect any stock replacements would be very difficult to find. Mine seem fine, all work well. Any info helps. Thanks.

Slide Accessories Thoughts

I am very new to my console steel. I am alone except for these groups, lessons and any good youtube videos I can find. Anxious to get started, I purchased a Dunlop 920 slide, nylon thumb pick and 2 finger picks. I was struggling to keep the finger picks on. I'd pick a string and they would occasiona...

Good stuff. I enjoy learning more Fender history. I have a related story. I have a '71 Super Reverb. I took photos of all the marks and signatures inside and around the chassis, and posted them on the Internet. I located one of the builders who worked on and signed my amp at the factory '71. One of ...
