SOLD Rickenbacher B-6 panda, working but damaged

Asking $600, free shipping in the USA. Still works when you plug it in, and should be restorable. It was my main gigging guitar for years, until I carelessly loaded it on to the top of a bunch of gear into the back of my SUV when packing it up to leave a gig. Of course, it slid off and plummeted to ...

Whoa that’s a lot of information, very interesting indeed. I checked the serial number and to me it looks like G1008, but it is difficult to read. Also, there is a patent pending stamp on the pickup. I’ll add pictures below. https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix2020-03/15313_C854EC48B64B492CB1...

I just pulled it out again and inspected--there is no repair that I can detect. It is just the way the Bakelite is.

I like this guitar, but the string spacing is still a bit narrower than a B-6, and so I don’t play it much. I feel that the touch and familiarity are so important on steel that I find it hard to switch between different guitars, much more so to me than standard guitar. 7 strings do make it nice to...

I’ve got one very similar, except no tone control. I use a high quality tenor ukulele soft case and it fits perfectly. Congrats on the nice axe!

I don’t have a great answer, but I have one of those too and I would be interested in recommendations. I have strings on it now that where intended to be for A high bass, but it was bellying near the bridge so I’ve tuned it to regular g dobro tuning. I would say a lighter gauge than regular c6 s...

Rickenbacker DW-16 dual 8 early 1950s **SOLD

Like the title says. Everything works and sounds great. Pots a little scratchy and input jack sometimes a little jiggly/noisy. Missing the legs, but I do have custom brackets that will allow you to mount it to a deluxe 34 stand, which I can throw in if you want them. This is one of the better earlie...

That was a project of my friend and occasion collaborator, Kilin Reece. He’s done much research and work regarding Hawaii’s stringed instrument traditions (in addition to being a great luthier and musician). I helped him put together the Kealakai Center for Pacific Strings, a 501(c)(3) non-profi...

Steve hit the nail on the head—they all sound different and even having owned a number of them, both pre- and post-war, it’s tough to make generalizations about different types being different or better because each individual instrument is different. The features that I’ve found I like are in...

Who is repairing Rickenbacher Horseshoe Pickups?

I have a 1930s 1.5" 7-string horseshoe pickup from my B-7 that all of a sudden started sounding thin and dirty, with much lower output. I had another one a while back that I had sent to Jason Lollar when it started doing something similar. According to Jason, a number of these were made in such...

Shameless plug since steel on Maui was mentioned: just about every Thursday at the Maui Coffee Attic in Wailuku during the day 11am - 12:30pm is the only regular steel guitar on the island that I know of. It’s free and if you want you can probably sit in. Myself, Geronimo Valdriz, and Don Mitsuyuk...

It’s very slight, but I do like the slightly more dark and, to me, jazzy sound of the Bakelite. The old frying pans with the hollow neck have a certain chime to them that is perfect for a lot of the Hawaiian stuff with slack key guitar, especially with a lot of harmonics. It has a bit of airiness ...

I’ve got one, and I play regularly with two other steel players (we rotate on steel). All of us have a-22’s, although I mostly play a Bakelite. One of the guys has many frying pans. I think a lot of them ended up here in Hawaii.

Hollow-neck frying pans sound good even without an amp. I wouldn't say I like it better than plugged in, but it's a very pleasant sound for quiet practice.

I think those are among the nicest cheap vintage steels out there, especially if you like the scale. The plain wood is a little more dressed-up than normal, so that is kind of cool. Price a bit on the high side, but if everything works well and you could get $100 knocked off, that would be great.
