Right hand technique question

I just got my psg, a Justice S10. I thought I had pretty good right hand technique from playing classical guitar & banjo, but I'm realizing that it doesn't transfer to psg :-o. Should you hold your knuckles strictly parallel to stings - fingers are perpendicular to strings? For guitar, the sweet...

I think that pedal is going to use a PT-2399 chip. Fairly common chip on budget priced <350ms delays. I have played with one & it does a good job.

The costs go into the development, the team, the quality of the physical product. The pin density on this DSP means the circuit board is populated with an Asian robot using imported ASIC. The parts are going to be more/less consumer audio grade. What you're paying for is margin & product engine...

The Strymons use a SHARC DSP. What I'm hearing is that the SW in these pedals is superior to SW in other DSPs. Looks like these devices top out at $20! Must be some SW.

Wear shoes especially if playing on a basement concrete floor! Modern homes will have a GFI in garages, basement, bathrooms which will protect you in case of total failure. I put a 3 prong cable on all my 2 prong old amps & figured out the correct polarity & taped down the polarity switch. I...

If you like vintage echo, GC has been running a special on TC Alter Ego. It's a DSP, but tries to model the vintage tapes, can, BBD, etc. A bit too modulated for me. A couple of useful presets, like Roland Space (great just for chorus), Boss DM2, Brit copy of echoplex. One user downloadable patch. T...

I thought this discussion started as what kind of maintenance should one expect on amp X. Also, if somebody spends 500 on a used silverface & then pays some significant portion of that for re-capping & tubes, or maybe new speakers, to a tech, they may not see that as expected maintenance. I ...

IMHO, The best sounding solid state amps in production are the Tech 21. Not sure if they come in high watt flavors. In the quasi-vintage, check out the Yamaha 100W flavors from the late 70s, early 80s. The Gibson/Lab5 were nice SS amps, but maybe not so reliable. The Roland Jazz/Chorus are great gui...

A Silverface or any amp without a circuit board is going to be a lot easier to work on. However, I wouldn't say they are maintenance free. First, they have a lot of tubes & if you carry spare tubes, it can be an investment: matched power, rectifier, & some 12AX/T7s tubes. Silverfaces can be ...

Roger, definitely, less is more. I have mostly a hate-only relationship now with multi-fx except for acoustic playing directly into PA. I'm beginning to hate all OD pedals. I could winnow it down to 3-4 pedals if zombie hoards attack & I have to bug out. I just bought a TC Electronics Vintage Ec...

A rule of thumb, perhaps one should say a heuristic to avoid the r-word, is by def not intended to be strictly accurate or reliable for every situation. The mod->preamp/OD->VP->delay/reverb grouping is typically what you will find on multi-fx pedals which do not allow programming the signal chain or...

A good rule of thumb is compression -> modulation -> dist/OD -> volume -> delay. For you it would be trem->dist->vol->delay I like this set up because, at least for overdrive (not distortion), the trem will push the overdrive in & out of soft OD, so think nice organ tones/harmonics on up swell &...

I built a tweed 53e deluxe circuit box-o-parts from Mission Amps. The real cost is the transformers, cabinet + speakers. I built a head cab for my 5E3 from poplar & use an existing 1x12 speaker cab. I see tweed clones + semi-branded for $500-1000 in craigs list. There are a lot of them out there...

Anybody get good results from putting a solid state rectifier and a bigger output transformer in a Deluxe Reverb? I suppose that's a thought as well. Probably bringing two amps would be simpler. I am building a Marshall 50W plexi clone with SS rectifier as a quasi-bassman amp. I looked at the Bassm...

A friend told me once there are two kinds of amps. One where the guitar player can irritate a bad drummer, & vice versa. In the late 70s & early 80s, Yamaha & Roland made some nice SS amps, as did Gibson with Lab series. I like the Tech21 amps & their preamps which emulate classic am...

I will give you my probably useless opinion on multi FX. I have played through this unit & I have owned a couple of TCE delays. Like Roland, you can tell after playing a lot that it's the same SW + DSP family in all their recent products. Most recent TCE stuff is mostly DSP, like all multieffect...

I notice whether my amp is class A (5-6 watts) or class AB >10 watts, more than if compressor is first signal processing in chain. The class A sounds more compressed at lower volumes than the class AB. I also notice more whether rectifier is diodes or a tube than a pre-amp compressor. I'm finding ma...

Thanks everyone for input & additional humor.

I figured it was a bust, but wanted to make sure someone didn't have a closet classic. There aren't many guitars for sale in the Raleigh area so I'm starting to look at buying one off the forum.

Re: Good, Cheap Compressor?

I've been playing with a compressor to help smooth out what I do. It's just a cheap MXR two knob. Anyone else know of a good, CHEAP, colorless, compressor? Thanx. RP I wouldn't say MXR is cheap. I've been using a Boss CS-3 which I like because it has a tone control & you can pick them up for $5...

What the heck is a Johnson Custom?

Pardon me if this is the wrong forum to ask this question - i just joined PSF today. My question is about a Johnson Custom Steel for sale in my driving area. I cannot find any info on this brand except references to 'Mike Johnson' & he doesn't seem to have his own pedal steel model. It looks ver...
