I remember when I first heard Lloyd Green's "Revisited" CD. I was in awe of his technical accomplishment. I knew how incredibly hard it is to do many of the moves he did. But at the same time I realized that anyone who doesn't play steel would just hear it as normal, competent, modern coun...

I do most of my low power chords with grips, not strums. When I do strum, I often mute a string in the middle with the tip of my left thumb. Also, I have a strong power chord with the following combination: E to F knee lever LKL also lowers 12th string E to C# Pedal 1 lowers 9th string D to C#, rais...

Low string bar noise

I use the thumb of my left hand to mute the low strings when I'm not playing them. That minimizes the bar noise that Dave is talking about, but maybe I'm not as sensitive to it as he is. I'm sure that there's still some noise - it just doesn't bother me.

in my opinion...

the low E is required if you want to play steel in a rock band. Otherwise you can't get any good power chords.

Clarification

The "Times Argus" article on Jerry Fessenden only confirms that you can't always believe what you read. That is, for some reason, many times, either "facts" get turned around, or guesses are reported as facts. Case in point: according to the article, The Web site "Pedal Ste...

I have a middle D on my C6th anyway. If I had to play a U-12, I'd keep the D and do without the low B. Hey, wait a minute! That would make it Extended E9th, which is what I play anyway! :D

Brad the only way to know is to get a hold of the major builders, Carter, MSA, Mullen, and Zum and find out how many they made in 2006, keep in mind there are a lot of other builders I didn't mention. Bobby I know your post was a guess but how did you come up with that? Well, the 1-man pro guitar s...

Carter probably makes more pedal steels than all other builders combined. A few years ago they celebrated their 1000th pro guitar. That should tell you something. I think that the Carter Starter probably has some decent sales figures. My earlier estimate of 300-400 total pedal steels per year was pr...

concerns

If you have gauged nut rollers, you'll have to get a new set for the thicker strings. Make sure that the guitar supports triple raises. Most C6th copedents these days raise the A to B on pedals 4 and 7, and to Bb on a knee lever. You might need more pull rods and bell cranks. Count your parts carefu...

I'm sure it's less than 1000. Probably less than 500. My guess would be in the range of 300 to 400.

<center> http://picturehost.net/b0b/CircleOfFifths.gif </center> Clockwise the intervals are 5ths. Counter-clockwise, they're 4ths. If you ever need to know the names of the 1 4 5 chords for a certain key, they are on either side of the key name on the circle. The 4 is counter-clockwise from the 1 a...

I forget where I read it but what cleared it up for me was a passage I read that stated that a musical chord always wants to resolve down a 4th. A G chord wants to resolve to a C, a C chord wants to resolve to an F, etc. Which is why you see progressions moving the way they move. Wouldn't that be u...

The Wikipedia entry says It is short for "ChOrd PEDal arrangemENT". While I do use the word, I've always found the reference to chords confusing. A copedent really has nothing to do with chords - it can refer to a scale-based pedal steel tuning as well. See my F diatonic copedent as an exa...

Just one thing concerning 1st string being a D instead of a G: should the D be raised a half step then, using P5?

I reckon it shouldn't.....

Not normally, no. Some people do it, though. It's not a standard thing.

Click "Strings" at the top of the page.

I added them to the Forum catalog about a year ago. The Boomers (nickel wound) seem to be the best sellers. I haven't tried them personally, but haven't had any complaints about them either.

When presented with a rhythmic visual display, I hear it. There's a sensory cross-talk that happens in my brain somehow. Also, I have no doubt that visuals affect my perception of tone. I deliberately play black steel guitars because they have a minimal effect on my hearing. ------------------ <font...
