I drove up to Philly to hear Jim Cohen and his group play with the Philadelphia Symphony's brass ensemble in a large, beautiful old cathedral. Jim played a number of great solos on tunes such tunes as Route 66, and the music and musicians were superb. On the program, the ensemble also played fanfare...

There are a great many outstanding women jazz musicians as you can see in following site. You can also find here a link to Carol Kaye's site, with her incredible list of bass and guitar sessions. There is 3-day Women in Jazz festival in Washington DC every May. Two of my absolute favorites are Elian...

Last evening I had the pleasure of seeing Johnny Bush receive the Annie Glenn Award from the National Council on Communicative Disorders. He was presented the award by Annie Glenn (wife of John Glenn who was also there) at the Kennedy Center in Washington for overcoming spastic dysphonia, which affe...

Just to clarify. There is no harmony at all on some of the tracks in Ray Price's Box Set, when we know for certain there was beautiful harmony on original tunes like Heartaches by the Number, and The Same Ole Me (others are missing harmony tracks as well). They are clearly the original tapes but the...

Thanks for raising Greg. There are a few tunes on the Ray Price Box Set that are missing harmony vocals, including Heartaches By the Number, and The Same Ole Me. They seem to missing on some tunes between #13 and #26 on CD 5, and #14 and #15 on CD 6, although not certain on all tunes. I suspect slop...

Eddie Stubbs on the Internet

I would like to remind everyone again that the Eddie Stubbs show--which plays country music from the 1940s-1960s--is on the internet every Saturday from Noon to 3 pm Eastern Time. Eddie is a top announcer at WSM and the Grand Ole Opry, and continues (at great inconvenience to himself) to continue hi...
