Blase Cafe

I have a follow up appt with my surgeon on Thursday and I'll ask about Tri-Flo. I've been using IPA to smooth things out, but maybe there's a better alternative! :-) Hope to see you on Friday.

Blase Cafe

Hi Russell and Glenn - I am indeed planning on playing with the Whole Band on Friday nights and would be very happy to see anyone who can come. I haven't been playing out lately because of Covid concerns (and a new bionic hip), but my oncologist says it's OK to start again as long as I'm careful not...

Thanks again to all for the replies. My audiologist programmed 3 slightly varied settings specific for music, and all of them do tune out the modulation, as well as making the higher frequencies much clearer, so I'm good to go on that issue. Now I need to ask her to tweak one of the programs to mute...

Jim, that's exactly what I'm talking about - a quick Leslie-ish modulation. I'll see what the audiologist can do with it.
Thanks to all for your replies. Much appreciated.

Hearing aids - Modulation

I have discovered that if I have my new hearing aids (first ones ever) in my ears while playing through my normal amp I hear serious modulation, which makes being confident of my intonation almost impossible. No hearing aids - no problem, which makes the solution sort of obvious, except that my most...

FWIW - Just got a pair of Hoffmeyers - I've been alternating between a set of Showcase 1941"s and a set of Jeffran Diamonds and I find that, out of the box (actually, out of the ziploc bag), these Hoffmeyers fit perfectly, don't abrade my cuticles, and are shaped and curved to just what I need ...

Depends on the band you're with, and the audience you're playing for, IMHO. There are bands, and audiences, which do not want to hear anything but the straight melody (think - VFW, Am Legion, Eagles, etc.[full disclosure -former Am Legion member]) and that's fine - someone told me once that the hard...

head time vs. seat time

I find that time spent hearing things in my head and then trying those things out on the guitar can be just as valuable as, or even more valuable, than sitting at the guitar and fishing for ideas. When sitting at the guitar my tendency is, more often than not, to play what I already know, rather tha...

Randall - The guitar is standard height. I purchased it from Mickey Adams here on the forum. You're correct about the light scratches. The mica is in good shape. Undercarriage is all original. Thanks for your interest! Best regards, Dave

Hi Rich - I'm in Sarasota on Siesta Key. Would enjoy meeting you - not too many of us over here. It's a great guitar, but the MSA XL Legend I just acquired is all the guitar I need for my work here. Thinning the herd, as they say - it was either the Zum or a Mullen "Del Mullen Signature" m...

The amp weighs in the neighborhood of 40-45 pounds.
I sold it this morning, as it happens, but thanks for the interest.

MX200 Lexicon settings

Anyone out there care to share a few MX200 patches? Thinking about replacing the TC Electronics G Major 2 in my Telonics, which seems to be in the process of going south on me.

Did a 'Top Gun" week with Jeff back in '94. Humbling, fun, and encouraging all at once. Got to watch Jeff shoot a rat with a '22 under the cabin - wasn't sure if he was going to get the rat or his foot! Spent Halloween night on the porch of his old house in the Hermitage listening to stories ab...

I have a steady Friday night outdoor gig on Siesta Key, and love it. I get a good tone out of my open backed Telonics, which is DI'd into the mains and monitors, so the dancers in front of us, and the listeners behind us in the parking lot, all get a good sound to enjoy from my amp and the rest of t...

W.J. - Try this: Blackface amp, Bass @ 3 o'clock, Mid @ 8 o'clock, Treble @ 9 o'clock, Presence just barely on, Warm Delay @ 8:30, Plate Reverb @ 2:00. YMMV, but it works pretty well for me. Oh - Master volume up all the way, gain just barely on, volume to taste.

+1 for the Peterson Newman tunings - never a problem for me unless I've left a set of strings on too long. Before the Peterson, I'd get an E (or C) from the lead guitar player, check it with the bass player, and then (quietly) tune the rest of the strings with a fuzz tone switched on, tuning out the...
