Do you have a list of string gauges recommended for the BMI? They vary a bit on a couple of strings from some packaged sets, Ernie Ball for one. String 6 for instance is wound in the package but the guitar probably has plain, if it is strung as it originally came. I think there is at least one othe...

Well, I'm just a beginner and I don't know how copedence or whatever is on other guitars, but on mine to press the B pedal and shift the 2nd knee lever produces a beautiful V7th chord that resolves beautifully into the I chord without moving the bar. Veteran players will know what I mean. I'm still ...

Thanks guys....I had been reading up and I thought that would be right on this, but just wanted to check. I'll put the new strings on first and see how it acts. Then make gradual adjustments till it sounds right. Oh well, even if I get it way out of whack, the guy who works on them is only a couple ...

Well, Lane, I'm fairly new as you probably know. Sounds like I've got it backwards a little bit. I haven't done anything yet. I've got a late 90's BMI S10. How would you suggest I proceed. I feel like I can do it. You know-- tune just a little, check it, tune just a bit more, check it, etc.... On my...

adjusting changers
I'm about to put some new string on. I've been playing on the same strings since I bought my PSG. I've always noticed that a couple of the pedals throw a little sharp when pressed. If the problem persists after I replace the strings, is there any reason why I can't adjust the changers myself? I know...

I'm just getting started myself. After i have gotten a handle on the grips, scales, pedals, knee levers, and the coordination of all of these...blocking properly will be an ongoing challenge. How to play cleanly and articulate each note. Oh, I didn't even mention the volume pedal...but I'm waiting t...

I have never used tab as yet. I play by ear. I listen to a tune and noodle around until I find it. I play to a backing track until it sounds like I have the sound of the player I'm trying to emulate. Nothing against tab. I just seem to move along better by instinct, or something....anyone else, do t...

Hey, Curt I'll be interested in reading the responses here, too. I've only been playing about a month. I have a volume pedal, but I haven't even hooked it up yet. Still working on basic stuff, grips, pedals, etc. I have noticed, that players use the pedal not only to govern the volume, but to apply ...

"Lube" for a PsG
I originally posted this question in Bernie's thread but thought better of it....forum etiquette, and all that..... Many references were made to "lube" this or that to take care of an unwanted pedal sound. In relation to that, what lubricant, oil or whatever is typically used on a PSG? Whe...

Thanks Lane. That's exactly what I needed. I'm glad you're on here. You are prompt and accurate! The Kustom is actually solid state as I'm sure many of the Peaveys are. Fender Twins are special amps, 85 watts and clean! I've gotten rid of a couple over the years...now that I need one! A new one woul...

What's a good steel amp?
I'm new to pedal steel. Right now I am playing through a Fender Acoustasonic Jr. 2x8. Primarily because it has two channels: one for my steel, and one for my backing tracks. Obviously, I'm using it for practice. Other amps I have on hand are: a '72 Kustom ( the old tuck and roll ) SA 2x10, its LOUD ...

PSGs are hard to find depending on where you live. You can always order a new one but if you want to sit down and play it first, it usually requires a long drive. After a year's search, I finally found an older gentleman that had two and was willing to sell one. It was a BMI S10 for $850 and I bough...

I can see your point, Curt. It would be kind of fun to lay down a track over a new song. I'm certainly not there yet, but I can see the appeal from a creative standpoint. You might try surfing around Reverbnation. There are a lot of songwriters on there that might be interested...I'm sure there are ...

extra holes in the pedals?
This is another "newbie" question:
In adjusting the pedals on my BMI I noticed there are extra holes in each pedal, four in all. I'm assuming these are for height adjustment, also? Or travel adjustment? Thought I'd better ask before I monkey with them.

GBDGBD can easily become GBEGBD when you want to use grips and get full minor chords....but with GBDGBD I can strum, and two-note minors are fine.... Yeah, some people use that tuning for a G6 sound, too. As you know there are a lot of ways to play in minor keys. Two-note minors, avoiding the 2nd a...
