I've been promoting this tuning for a while(see Brad's Pages of Steel). It opens up a lot of possibilities and really gives the reso more colour. It's also different from the common steelguitar/lapsteel derived tunings like C6 etc, which sound too 'hawaiian' for my taste. I have a couple of jazztunes...

Mike,

The Leavitt tuning is new for me: looks like a good piece for a first attempt. Thanks for sharing it.

It's more than a trick for me. It makes a lot more possible on dobro (& lap steel probably too): more chords, cleaner slants, steel guitar like licks. I use standard gauge strings and I put my thumb against the neck when pulling a string in order to have more strenght. That's not like it how is ...

Next step is to learn to deliberately play the 'wrong notes', Chris! But how can you learn to do that? Someone gave me "Tom Bradshaw's Pedal Steel guitar products" It struck me that this catalogue is loaded with instructional material for playing jazz on the pedal steel. I can't even think...

Hi Jon, Thanks for your quick reaction. Pity you just are about to start playing the dobro; your knowledge of the tune would probably have revealed the weaker spots in my version of 'RM pretty soon. About the Emin7 tuning I used: I also started out playing in GBDGBD, but I accidently discovered the ...

Dobro licks & turnarounds

Hi everybody, Just posted my dobro transcription of a jazzballad to the Share-a-lick/Turnaround page. I have only been a member for one month. One thing I hoped to find on the Share-a-Lick/Turnaround pages was new material 'to steel away with' on my dobro(is this correct English?). This month, and t...

'Round Midnight, dobro version

Hi everybody, I'd like to share my version of 'Round Midnight, a well known jazzballad transcibed for dobro in a variation of the G-tuning(first part only). It's a chord/melody kind of arrangement, intended to be played without accompanyment. I think my version is pretty basic, it's hard to capture ...

Thanks, 'asdasd'. Shortly after posting my question I ran across the "Tablature explanation" under a transcription made with tab creation program Tabestry (for instance under A. Volks' transcriptions on Brad's Pages of Steel) I think I'm gonna use these. I prefer an accurate rhythm notatio...

Hi everybody,

Where can I find directions for writing tabs: I want to know how to write the rhythm.
