Jay Ganz Straight Ahead amp
Hello fellow steelers, I recently got a Straight Ahead amp from Jay Ganz. This was to replace a tube amp head I had built out of an old Hammond organ. The tube amp sounded great, although it produced less than 20 Watts of power. Mostly, I was tired of lugging that weight up stairs. The Straight Ahea...

My intention was to reduce how much floor space I need to set up my rig. I play very small venues for the most part. In the end though, I 'll take as much space as I need. If it's too much space, they can get a piccolo player instead. For the mandolin, I got a hanger that clamps onto the PSG leg. Fo...

@Jon Voth Yes, you are right, of course. The butt of the tele would sit on the floor, and the hook/brace would hold it upright somewhere on the upper neck. This all may be a terrible idea! I'm trying to minimize my footprint on the stage. A little folding stand might be the way to go for the tele. T...

Good ideas. I like the idea of building a board with clamps or braces that would wedge into the upsidedown V of the steel legs. I have a roll of industrial velcro to keep things in place. I think for the Tele, I would have to have a padded brace that holds it in place so it can't fall forward. I'll ...

A way to hang a Telecaster and a mandolin off the PSG?
Hi fellow steelers, I switch off on mando and Tele in the bands I play with. I want to build/buy hangers that will attach to the legs of the PSG to hold up a Tele and a mandolin. I do not trust guitar stands on stage- too easy to kick over by inattentive musicians or enthusiastic patrons. I was thin...

Budget preamp for steel?
Hi. I would love to buy a top-quality rig like the Sarno Revelation, but I can't justify the cost. Any recommendations on some decent budget alternatives? I am looking for a simple tube pre that I will be able to use live and for recording. I switch between steel, Telecaster, and electric mandolin. ...

Blue Christmas on steel?
Hi fellow steelers,
I friend asked me to play Blue Christmas on steel with her on a webcast concert. She wants the steel to mimic the background singers: oo oo oo OOO oo.
Gee, that's a tough ask for a beginner like me.
Any advice on how you would approach something like that?
Best,
Al

DIY thread
Hi steelers, Would anyone be interested in a DIY thread? This would be for things we built ourselves- stands, electronics, cases, etc. I am ok with a tablesaw (still 10 fingers) and a menace with a soldering iron, but getting hetter. I would love to see what you all have come up with to solve proble...

Recording experience
Hi steelers friends, Relatively beginner steeler here. I was recording PSG yesterday for a friend's album. Due to the lockdown, I was set up to record in my studio (garage), while the producer and my friend were in the real studio on a Zoom videocall with me. We'd talk about a song, and then I'd tak...
