I voted Equal for my C6th. As I move through different scales and harmonies pretty quickly sometimes, there is less stuff that sounds off in Equal than if I were to try it on JI. Hi Pete,

Does the locking screw on the Excel alleviate the need for lots of wraps? Evidently not since you've got quite a few. I thought the locking screw would keep it from slipping no matter how many wraps.

Intonation can be learnt, Ian.

Also, you may have a good ear to begin with but if you slant the bar even slightly, it will throw you off. Checking against an open string is an easy way to see if you're off.

Exercises where every other note is an open string. If they don't sound good together, there is a intonation problem. Or use a tuner and play notes with the bar at each fret to see where you get out of tune.

I have two Excel S-10's - 5X5. The new Excel is lighter and that causes issues on knee levers that are not vertical. Excellent work! The visuals are pretty intriguing as well, the buses going by and all with reflections. Used to play this on the flute with a pianist way back when and loved it.
