That long scale is the problem.I tried everything to get a high G# on my fender, and that only 26 in.,all the way down to a .09 string, and found it just can't be done.On my 59 Fender 1000 I had to change the tuning to D9,so the high string is F#.Takes a little getting used to but works fine that way.

That shouldn't be happening.I tried a set of those SITs about 20 years ago and they didn't SIT at all.I've been using John Pearce strings for the last 10 years and once they're stretched in,haven't had any problems at all.

I had the pleasure of meeting and hanging out with Bobby at the Asleep at the Wheel 40 year reunion.Nice, nice fellow. We hit it off immediately. And what a great player. He was one of my main influences when I was learning in the 70s.Still sounds as great(if not better)as ever.Eddie

I don't know much about the Multichord except they were only made for a short while around 1950.This looks like a nice one.

Thanks, gentlemen. That makes perfect sense, because I had the identical problem on a lap steel once and it miraculously went away after having some electronic work done, and nobody could explain that either.I'll try it tonight and let you know.Thanks,again.Eddie

Anyone Had This Problem?

I just had some switches replaced on a stringmaster and when it came back from the shop one of the necks seems to have lost all of it's tone.Especially above the twelfth fret,it has no sustain or harmonics at all.The other necks are fine, but of course the problem is on the one I use most.Nobody seem...

Plain Talkin' Man CD

Eddie Rivers here, from Asleep at the Wheel . I've been meaning to ask all my steel guitar friends to check out my new solo CD. It is called Plain Talkin' Man [/b] and my Asleep at the Wheel bandmate Jason Roberts co-produced it with me. It is on Ray Benson's record label here in Austin, called Bis...

To me,passion and emotion are what the steel guitar is all about. The music must always come first, but to get work it's best to have some kind of stage presence,as long as you don't overdo it.

They all have their own sound, but for overall versatility, you can't beat a Fender. They changed very little from '53 until they stopped making them in the 70s.I'd recommend a Deluxe 8,if you can find one.I bought my first one new in '74 and for fly dates,I still use it on stage.Still sounds great, too.

Personally,I'm partial to the Fender sound for non pedal. But whatever you go with,I recommend an 8 string rather than 6.As you progress, you'll be glad you have the two strings. When we fly to gigs,I just take a Fender Deluxe 8 tuned to A6th and get all I need with just that.

If you take off the tuning peg dish on the back neck it should tell you what year the guitar was made, providing it's preCBS,which it probably is.My guess is early 60s.
