empress normally has a scratch and dent section on their website. they sell pedals with cosmetic flaws at something like a 20-25% discount. i got mine on reverb for super cheap (imagine that).

i have an empress compressor. of the many that i've tried recently (wampler, keeley, ross) it is the best sounding one, probably because it is the most transparent. i think when you're dealing with compression on a pedal steel and going for a transparent tone it gets hard to tell what's going on. th...

you should be able find a nice d10 of the same era as your ldg. if i were you i'd make the trade. life's short, you might as well try c6!

john and mike are spot on. this a good, stable mechanism that is easy to work on. i had an ldg with the same mechanics. the trouble spots for me are the changer finger tops.they are potted metal coated with a chrome finish. when the chrome wears away, the finger will sound terrible. you can swap out...

loosen the screw on the barrel adjuster, and then roll back the shaft of the pot with a pair of long nose pliers. tighten the screw again.

i've been experimenting with compressors for a year or two now; wampler, keeley, tc electronics and empress. i've tried pre and post volume pedal. after all that time of fiddling, i can say pretty definitively that none of them have made me sound any better.

i think the seller is getting closer to reality and still has a few dollars to go. reverb is the land of fairy tale prices, and i'm sure fairy tales come true every once in a while. i'm sure this is a great guitar; i have one just like it!

waxing and potting the pickup are two terms for the same thing. microphonics are caused by air in between the windings allowing the windings to pickup vibrations. to fill the gaps, pickup makers will submerge the pickup in pot of liquid wax.

thanks for your help!
