It does work, as you found. But, it's noticeably harder to play in that range, and my guitar's tone is not as sweet in that position, either. When I get around to that book again, I'll use the book's tuning for sure.

I liked the Cindy Cashdollar Western Swing DVDs Vol 1 and Vol 2. This set gave me enough exercises and songs to stay busy for many, many weeks. If you have a grasp of theory and the Nashville number system, her lessons work great, you can jump right in.

Legs are not required for lighter instruments when playing seated. They are handy for heavier instruments (especially multi-neck) and / or playing while standing up.

I think a fair ballpark for a nice vintage 8-string fender in good shape with most all the original parts is seven to eight hundred per neck, at least, for the single- and double-neck instruments. Triples and quads are more work to haul around and therefore less desirable, so those sell for a good b...

I have appreciation for the relic instruments. Many years ago, I tried a used Sadowsky bass in a shop. It showed a bit of wear, and it was the sweetest, most beautiful playing bass, it felt like it played itself in my hands. A few years later, I was visiting Brooklyn, and I looked up the Sadowsky sh...

This instrument is a round-neck, fretted resonator guitar, and so it is not a steel guitar. Kindly consider moving this post to the "For Sale: Other Instruments" section, that is where the standard guitars are meant to be listed. Best regards and good luck selling that pretty guitar!

Righteous! I was closely considering that listing for myself a month or so ago, but I decided I've got enough strings to keep me busy for a while. I just love how the vintage market for lovely "big three" instruments is so down-to-earth compared to armpit guitars.

The improved electronics, nut, and adjustable belly bar all seem pretty nifty, but why, oh why, are they putting an individually adjustable bridge on it? That's generally not required on any steel guitar that is built correctly. I don't know... Maybe the ideas is that one can adjust the action for v...

I learned to play Willie's vocal part for Crazy and Stardust, those tunes usually get a nice reception so long as I don't crash and burn.

Also Patti Page had great country and pop hits, I'm working on Tennesee Waltz and Old Cape Cod.

That is helpful. So, this Supro is a relatively common 6-string, economy model. It is wrapped in that infernal plastic, which it seems to be intact. With some luck and TLC, you could clean it and it might end up looking very nice. The tone of the original pickups is/was usually plain and bit thin, s...

Is it painted, or wrapped in MOTS? If it's the MOTS, run away, that stuff is impossible to modify or repair and the wood hiding underneath is as cheap as they could get that year. What type of comet, what is the condition, and how much original hardware is missing? Also, are you buying the replaceme...

I think I do over-slant sometimes. It usually happens when I start from a slanted position at a lower fret, and move up quite a bit higher, like an octave, without reducing my slant angle enough. When this happens, I know pretty quick because it sounds truly bad. It's also hard for me to nail the ba...

I had my 50's Supro pickup completely repaired by Tom Brantley last summer. It needed the magnets recharged and both coils rewound, which is a delicate operation because the design is, to be blunt, cheap. For example, the bobbin is made out of paper. Anyway, the rebuilt pickup works great now, I'll ...

Yep, Gryphon is excellent, I grew up in the neighborhood, that's where I saw a Rickenbacher A22 for the first time San Francisco itself is, in my humble experience, perhaps a bit dry on steel guitar. I think this is a seriously cool and intriguing device. I love the concept of getting more jazz chords and pedal-ish licks on instruments, which are all single-neck 6-stringers. It's also nifty how the gadget works without committing any physical modification to the instrument. Maybe, with such flex...

A dab of Teflon grease in the nut slots and in the gears helps wonders, sometimes. Stewart Macdonald has a fine selection of tuners.
