Interesting outcome. I have never had bad luck yet with JJ brand tubes. I sure hope their QC isn't going downhill, but one never knows? So sorry to see this. Fred offered invaluable help and advice to me when I started my pedal steel journey. He was always so generous and upbeat, and just a fun guy to be around. My condolences to his family. Fred is resting high on that mountain now.

I'm only a couple of chapters into this, but it has already exceeded my expectations of what it would be. Thank you Mr. Fishell for putting in what had to be an exhausting amount of research on an extraordinary person.

I had distortion with the MXR phaser as well. I think the BL705 pickup in my guitar is just too hot for it. I now use a TC Electronics Helix with no problems. It also has a lot more versatility than the old MXR.

Naturally, a Gibson SG is going to be tonally different than a steel guitar. But he certainly has a technique. His hand vibrato is fantastic. I think even better than Duane's.

Sounds like you have already troubleshot the obvious problems. This is a circuit board amp, so it may not be an easy fix. I would contact Peavey unless you know a local amp tech.
