Any other Fred Amendolas?

I have several "transcriptions" of Fred tabbing music from Buck Reed's "A Work in Progress" and one he did for me of one of Danny Sneed's videos.

Now that Fred is gone, is there anyone out there that can do what he did...put into written music what great players play?

Buck Reid and Fred Amendola....Get their transcripotions

I recently received tab and music for "Eastern Swing" from Buck's "Work in Progress" album. It was composed by Buck and edited by Fred Amendola. It is the best, most complete music for pedal steel guitar I've seen. I intend to get others and hope it will be available. Let's help ...

I haven't read many or the posts, but did anyone else notice that Doug has six floor pedals? The chart shows five.

Looks like a big D6 tuning with a b5 in the middle. I turned it into an E tuning to see what he is doing. Doug is somewhat a chord genius in the manner of Maurice. I don't see what he is doing with all of the changes. But...I gave up trying to understand other player's setups. Well, there was one. I'...

Wade Ray's steel player

I think I saw Wade Ray's band in Salinas somewhere around tht time. The steel player was Eddie Martin, but I can only vaguely recall what he looked like. I think he was older and not tall, but I am only sure about the name.

Chalker and Alberta Bound

Bless you, my son! Recently, a friend found the "Sundown Album" (probably at a flea market) and sent it to me. I was not overly impressed as Chalker could do much more - except for his ride on "Alberta Bound." I thought "Im gong to have to learn this" and you sure have ...

A B-Bb goodie

Maybe everyone knows about this, but I didn't. When you are on a 7th chord, strings 5,6, and 9 and are going to be there a little while, lower the B to Bb while moving up one fret, let off the KL and go back to the 7th chord. Neat sound.

I don't watch much "country" but that was a good concert on HDTV.

Good musicians. I should know better than to ask this, but why do they feature the steel player so little?

Rickenbacker double neck changer...anyone?

I asume this guitar of b0b's uses cables. On the twin, the pedals work on both necks and I understood there was a changeover thing. Anyone know the mechanics of it? I never found a patent drawing.

I had MANY pictures of Wright/Sierra guitars as well as from dozens of other mfrs. Some years back, I gave up on it and sent the collection to Tom Bradshaw. It was a file box full. There were also some pictures of early steel get togethers, such as Napa and Dallas. There were pictures of Chalker at ...

To Lee Jeffriess

Lee: I reread the thread about Chalker's Fender 1000. You asked about Gary Walker. I met him in the mid-60's, I think, at the first steel fest Tom Bradshaw put on at Napa and spoke with him later at a similar steelfest in Dallas. This was the one where Curly put the guy down that asked him to "...

I was in Las Vegas in the mid 1960's when Curly ws playing at the Lariat Club. He was mainly singing and playing trumpet, but had a Fender 2000 set up and also owned a D10 ZB - one of the earliest ones. At the time, he considered the ZB the best of the custom built steels. I tried to not be a spook ...

Chalker and both feet

I couldn't find the earlier thread. Before KL's, Chalker had a lot of floor pedals. I have many of his C6 setups back to when he was playing a Fender. His C to B lower was on the floor and next to it was a pedal that also lowered the C to B PLUS the E (first str) to D. They were to the right of what...

Mr. Day: I was referring to a 13th tuning, such as the E13 used years ago: from the top; E C# B G# F# D B G#. If you slam the bar across all the strings, at the root chord - E in this cse - the D note should be muted. It is a b7 and doesn't work with the I chord. I think Bill Tonnesen muted the stri...

13th chords

This is for those who don't care a'tall. Rememeber the bar slams of Speedy West and those of us who copied him. Bill Tonnesen, steel player for Ole Rasmussen for years, taught me something by watching him. If he slammed a chord on the E13 at the root position, he killed the D string. Makes sense, th...

Buddy E: a Chalker question

Hi: In don't necessarily expect you to know the answer to his and I've asked several who were more or less close to Curly C. Back before knee levers, he had a goodie pedal that lowered the top A to Ab, the C to B, the upper G to F#, and raised the F to F#...a combination of several changes. His tuni...

Jim Corwin, Kenny Vernon

There was a good player in the mid 50's in the LA area. I think he played with Ole Rasmussen while Bill Tonnesen was in the army. Had a triple neck Bigsby and one strange tuning. Several pedals. I saw Kenny Vernon when he was not much more than his teens, also playing with Ole in the San Jose area. ...

A music rack that attaches to the legs of your PSG and is the full length of the guitar. Great for holding music/tab. Just snaps on. Watch Tom's website.

I hope I'm not wrong, but I think Paul Franklin has nine pulls on his P4: three on E9 and six on C6. I'll look it up. I have heard the Franklin defies one of the laws of physics "for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction."

Are any of you using this to steal licks? Happy with it? There are a lot for sale on eBay.

I recall a Marantz cassette player that was supposed to slow to 1/2 speed with no loss in pitch and be able to trap a note. I can't find anything on it.

Hi b0b: Yes, how are all those changes used at one time? I lower both A's as of now. I wondered why Curly did some of the things he did on his earlier setups, such as having a pedal on the floor to lower the C to B and one next to it to do that plus lower the E to D. But, you know what? I would have...

I'm going to try this again... Years before knee levers, CC had this pedal - I think it was the last of about ten. Later, he could get the same with a "standard" pedal and a KL that made the changes on strings 2 and 3 (crossover ShoBud the first?) E C B A Ab (G#?) G Gb (F#?) E C A F F# D A...

David: Some use the C-C# change with the G-F# change to get an A6 chord (E C# A F#). for those who have a D as the first string, it replaces the high open C6 chord (with G on top) by moving up three frets and engaging those two changes. Food for thought: If you have a G on top, do you need this C-C#...
