I didn't grow up around too much country music, just bits of it here and there, but in NYC in the 60s and 70s, the big radio station was 77 WABC (AM), with disc jockeys like Cousin Brucie and Dan Ingram. That station played lots of different things - soul, Motown, top 40 pop, British Invasion, psych...

Tommy, if my question seemed pointed, it was not meant to be combative. I just see a lot of posts that say traditional country can't find an audience and then there is the qualifier, "well if it does, it's all old people". No problem, I didn't take it that way, Clyde. I don't have a dog i...

Not at all. I'm just curious if people in their 20s and 30s are also active in supporting a resurgence in traditional country. It's not something I have a feel for where I live.

Age of audiences?

A question for those of you who do traditional country gigs (or go to venues to hear it) - how old are the audiences that you're seeing?

I've always thought that George Harrison's solo on Nowhere Man was really perfect and interesting. Actually, he had a lot of brilliantly succinct solos that were also full of character. Not an easy thing to do on demand. Another guy who was great at tight little solos on demand was Elliott Easton (...

As a new PSG player, I don't see this as a problem, but rather as a benefit. :)

Almost anything I need to know is out there for me to find, and I don't even need to ask more than an occasional question (if even that) from anyone here.

The archives for this forum are also deep with information.

Americana is really what drew me back to the instrument and made me want to learn it, but some of the comments here led me to think about it in a much more critical way than I had before. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that a site full of musicians would tend to judge a lot of music on the techn...

If they start charging for certain content, then any of the same content and lots of the things that compete with it will start disappearing from youtube. Sort of a case in point - there was mention in another thread of a music clip from the Jimmy Kimmel Show that disappeared from everywhere all of ...

Jerry Douglas with Omar Hakim

Jerry Douglas is great on this, but I really posted it because of Omar's drum solo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KnwgaWON10 When I was a kid, I used to watch Omar play at the junior high a few blocks away - he was great even when we were 13. He's good friends with a lot of my buddies who went to ...

John P. - Thank you for the nice message - I totally agree about learning the fretboard and the scales - I've been reading Mike Perlowin's theory book and Winnie Winston's PSG book also, and already knew some things about chord patterns and theory. I want to learn the instrument, not just licks. Tha...

Glad to hear your still with it. Just keep pushing forward. Well, I found someone local to give me in-person lessons - and I was way more ready for it this time  We worked on some drills and it was fun - I played an MSA like the one below, which was interesting to try. Mike, great post - especially for your first one! I think Joey Ace covered this well back on the first page of this thread, but most young people don't think of youtube like it's Carnegie Hall or the Ed Sullivan show. Most of them are probably just sharing publicly, which is an everyday thing now. S...

At the end of the performance, David Letterman comes up on stage and tells the steel player to bring his "Thingy" (pointing to the steel) up to his house because (somebody) is coming over. I couldn't hear who's name he said. I'm 99% sure he said Ryan Lochte was coming over (olympic swimme...

I've been an internet DJ for seven years and have my own small station now (click my www link to see and/or listen). It keeps me listening for new music every week.
